A Caged Songbird's Escape: Into the Arms of a Predator novel Chapter 353

The alcohol hadn't fully hit yet, and Elissa's mind was still clear. Whether she was sure about her decision didn't really matter.

She gently clinked her can against Tanya's. "Tanya, this wasn't a situation where I had any other choice."

Not unless she was willing to forget how her parents died and let the criminals responsible walk free.

Tanya wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "So what did Rowan say? Did he just agree to it?"

Elissa fell silent, a dull ache still throbbing somewhere in her body. "He thinks I want to get back together with Frank."

He had taken out his rage on her, and then again on Frank.

"…"

Tanya bit back a curse. Men. It was better not to even talk about them.

"So, what's your plan now?" The Murphy family had covered their tracks in the car accident so perfectly that even with the evidence Frank had found, they could only speculate. There wasn't enough to convict anyone. And with the Murphys' power and influence, getting revenge through other means would be even harder.

Elissa set her empty can on the coffee table. "First, let's see what their next move is."

"Their?"

"Yeah." Elissa shared her thoughts. "Frank said today that the man responsible is getting out of prison in the next couple of days."

He hated her parents, and he hated her. Once he was out, he would surely make a move. Finding definitive proof from the original accident would be nearly impossible, but if he tried something new, he was more likely to leave a trail. If you pull a turnip out of the ground, you're bound to get some dirt with it.

-

After returning to his apartment, Frank sat for a while, but the suffocating feeling in his chest wouldn't go away. He pulled out his phone and called Bradley Wheeler. "Up for a drink?"
