When they reached the table, Pamela rushed to pull out a chair for Ruby.

“Pamela, put Mira in her bassinet for a bit and come eat,” Ruby said as she sat down.

A moment later, Pamela joined them at the table, her hands free.

Sylas, now a model of good behavior, eagerly placed a piece of fish in Ruby’s bowl. “Try this. I learned it from a five-star chef.”

The fish was tender and flaky, glistening with sauce. It looked incredibly appetizing.

Ruby’s lip twitched. She looked up and, as expected, found Pamela watching them with a gossipy grin. The moment their eyes met, Pamela blinked and quickly looked away. “Oh, I think I’ll try this one.”

Ruby was speechless.

Still, she ate the piece of fish. When Sylas moved to serve her again, she stopped him. “Eat your own food.”

His hand froze mid-air. He shot Ruby a wounded look and slowly retracted his hand. “Oh… okay.”

Ruby raised an eyebrow. His downtrodden act made it look as if she had just bullied him. She glared at him again, which only made him look more pitiful, even shrinking back in his seat.

The whole display was cringeworthy. She had seen how Sylas treated others—with cold ruthlessness and unyielding authority. This sad puppy routine was just unsettling.
