Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert) novel Chapter 538

Just as Sylvia was about to collapse onto the shattered glass, someone caught her arm.

“Sylvia, what the heck is going on with you?”

It was Chris.

Spotting a familiar face, Sylvia clung to his sleeve like a drowning woman grabbing a lifeline.

Chris took one look at her pale face and quickly helped her to a chair, then cracked open a window to let some air in.

Once she was settled, he slipped into doctor mode, checking her pulse and looking her over.

He frowned, half-grumbling, “Didn’t I warn you before? Your body’s running on empty, like a phone at 2%. And now you’re short-circuiting! Any longer and I’ll be picking out a casket for you.”

Sylvia managed to catch her breath and shot him a glare, glancing sideways at Naomi, who was on the verge of tears.

Chris caught the look and tried to lighten the mood. “Kidding, kidding. Just trying to remind you to take better care of yourself.”

Naomi wiped her eyes and asked, “What happened? You were fine a minute ago, and then you just collapsed.”

Sylvia jumped in, “It’s low blood sugar. I was rushing to bring you some food and forgot to eat myself.”

“You scared the hell out of me. Hold on, I’ll get you something to eat.”

Naomi patted her chest, then hurried off to scoop up some soup for Sylvia.

Chris gave Sylvia’s arm a gentle pat.

“Seriously, what’s going on?”

“Low blood sugar,” Sylvia repeated.

“You really love ignoring me, don’t you? I even had to run over here with some news for you,” Chris said, shaking his head.

Sylvia looked up at him and managed a weak smile. “Dr. Chris, I was just worried about my mom’s mental state, but I didn’t want her to know, so I made up a story.”

“That actually makes you a lot more likable,” Chris grinned, flashing a big, cheesy smile.

Sylvia rolled her eyes, exasperated.

Chapter 538 2

Sylvia’s lips trembled, her eyes flickering with something strange, but she composed herself before looking at Chris.

Chapter 538 3

Chris shuddered, just retelling the stories.

Sylvia, though, slowly calmed down. She gave a dry laugh. “Even if I stay away, you think they’ll leave me alone?”

“Sylvia, I really think you should talk to—”

“Don’t say it.”

She knew exactly who Chris meant.

Rupert.

But in her past life, Rupert had chosen to lie to her for Reese.

Now, with Reese always by his side, and Kay being Reese’s aunt, she knew exactly who he’d choose.
