Jason squinted his eyes slightly, his voice chilly as he began, "She's not wrong. Getting into the studio has its barriers. You're not a pro, she can't take you under her wing!"
Evelyn's face flushed red in an instant, rushing to explain, "I know I'm not a professional. I told Sophia I could be an assistant at least, but Sophia said I couldn't even do that."
Jason’s face was expressionless, “You really can’t even be an assistant! And you shouldn’t be whining in front of the master. These rules are my doing. Don't blame Sophia. If anything comes up next time, come straight to me!”
Evelyn, directly called out, turned an even deeper shade of red, too embarrassed to show her emotions, only managing a look of grievance, “I wasn't whining.”
“Then why bring this up in front of the master? To have him plead on your behalf, or to make him think Sophia is targeting you?” Jason was merciless, “Knowing you're not cut out for it yet still insisting. Do you think the world should pave the way for you?”
Evelyn was left speechless, managing only a stutter, “I, I, I—”
“Enough!” Old Mr. Quintin cut her off, “Evelyn, go check if dinner is ready. Have them reheat the lamb stew from lunch; Sophia loves it.”
Evelyn bit her lip and stood up, “Right away, I’m on it!”
As she turned and walked towards the kitchen, her expression immediately darkened.
After Evelyn had left, Old Mr. Quintin said, “Jason, follow me to the study.”
Jason nodded, trailing behind Old Mr. Quintin into a small study next to the living room.
Once the door was closed, Old Mr. Quintin looked Jason up and down, “What’s got into you, such a temper?”
Jason replied softly, “It’s nothing!”
Old Mr. Quintin chuckled, pointing at him, “Something on your mind you’re not telling me? Is this about a quarrel with Sophia? I noticed you were off the moment you arrived.”
Jason was naturally reserved and hardly ever light-hearted, but Old Mr. Quintin knew him too well and could see right through his mood.
Old Mr. Quintin nodded slowly, “That’s the right attitude!”
He then asked, puzzled, “What’s their conflict?”
Jason remained silent.
Old Mr. Quintin didn’t press further, instead suggesting, “But about this, you’ll need to help out. Evelyn’s right; with Vivian always away, her staying home isn’t a long-term solution. Young people need their own lives. Help her find a job.”
With Old Mr. Quintin asking, Jason couldn’t refuse, replying calmly, “She can’t make it into the studio, but I can arrange something in one of my other companies. What did she major in?”
“Knock, knock, knock!”
Evelyn suddenly knocked and entered.
