Yolanda’s voice was sharp with anger. “Now I finally see she never meant well. She bribed someone close to you to keep tabs on us—just waiting for Connor to walk right into her trap!”
Connor’s ex-wife might have been involved, but Yolanda’s real hatred was reserved for Diana.
She wanted nothing more than to storm into the police station and punch Diana right in the face.
A chill crept down Sophia’s spine as she started to understand how Diana had managed to lure Robin away.
Diana had graduated from Capital University and worked in the city for only a year before being promoted to a managerial position—smart, ambitious, and strikingly beautiful.
She’d hidden in the shadows, planning everything down to the last detail, watching as everyone fell into the snares she’d set.
Sophia even suspected Diana had majored in psychology back at university.
Such a calculating and intelligent woman—what a waste that after meeting Robin, all that cleverness turned dark. In the end, those who plot against others only destroy themselves. Diana’s mind grew twisted, and she wound up ruining her own life.
Yolanda sighed. “Anyway, I blamed Sophia for nothing this time. Connor and I broke up. There’s no need for that engagement ring anymore. Maybe if I find someone new, I’ll ask Sophia again.”
Sophia thanked Yolanda for her honesty, then said goodbye.
After she hung up, Sophia felt a wave of mixed emotions.
No matter what, the ordeal was finally over. She wasn’t one to dwell on the past, so she turned her attention back to the rest of her workday.
As evening approached, Robin called.
“Sophia, can we meet?” he asked.
The days were getting warmer, and the sun lingered in the sky. By the time Sophia reached the restaurant, twilight still colored the horizon—a faint, rosy glow dissolving into the blue-grey dusk.
Inside, Robin was already waiting. He stood up as soon as he saw her, his smile gentle. “Sophia!”
He pulled out her chair and poured her a glass of lemon water. “I asked if they could do some classic dishes for you, and the chef said yes. I’ve already ordered—hope you enjoy it.”
“Thank you,” Sophia said with a smile.
“No need to thank me, and don’t be so formal.” Robin looked a little nervous. “Would you like something to drink? Maybe some wine?”
Sophia shook her head. “No, thanks. I have to drive later.”
