But just when it seemed he was lost in the darkness, she appeared—bringing not only love, but hope.
And in that moment, he saw her at her most beautiful—effortlessly, as if fate had meant for him to witness it.
After admiring the painting, Anastasia pulled Harrison along, wandering all through Rosewood Manor, insisting on revisiting each portrait several times before she finally managed to calm her excitement.
“Harrison, Anastasia, I can walk! I can actually walk!” Marcus suddenly shouted, his voice echoing through the hall.
Anastasia turned to see him moving about with ease, no cane in sight. Aside from not being able to walk too fast, he seemed perfectly fine.
The look on Marcus’s face was pure joy—he was practically on the verge of tears. Anastasia couldn’t help but smirk, her lips curling in mischievous delight.
“Not bad at all,” she teased. “You recovered even faster than I expected!”
“Of course! I haven’t been training nonstop for nothing, you know,” Marcus declared, brimming with confidence as he strolled over to them.
It was the first time Anastasia had seen Marcus standing tall. Suddenly, she understood why Mr. Jackson had always been surrounded by admirers. Sure, his family background was impressive, but that face—well, that didn’t hurt either.
He’d been handsome even in a wheelchair, but now, standing upright, he radiated charm and elegance. If the phrase “tall, dark, and handsome” had ever belonged to anyone, it was him.
“Anastasia, you stunned by my good looks?” Marcus asked, catching her gaze. He grinned, cocky as ever, and gave her a playful wink.
Anastasia immediately wiped the expression from her face and turned away. “Honey, he’s flirting with me,” she announced to Harrison.
Harrison’s face turned cold. “Marcus, you got a death wish?”
Marcus blinked, caught off guard. Was this what it felt like to freeze in a blizzard in the middle of June?
He’d just been showing off a little—what was the big deal?
Men with wives were truly impossible to reason with!
