The Billionaire Ex-Wife and the Beggar He Became novel Chapter 234

Winona turned to Claud and spat out, "Don't follow me. If you do, I swear I'll kill you. Smash you to pieces!"

Claud froze, not daring to take another step.

In his hand was a package—Julian had wrapped it himself. Inside was the heirloom statue of Jesus from Winona's grandmother's house.

Watching Winona walk away, holding little Zane's and Mia's hands, Helga trailing after them, Claud could only let out a bitter, self-deprecating chuckle.

He pulled out his phone and dialed Mayo.

Mayo picked up almost immediately. "Well? Gallagher, did Winona even acknowledge you?"

"No," Claud said flatly, "she wouldn't even look at me."

Mayo's sigh was audible over the line. "Can you blame her? Think about it: we used to eat her food, drink her coffee, then turn around and treat her like dirt. We helped that homewrecker steal her husband, tried to wreck her life, and dragged a whole crowd to ruin her. If it were me, I'd cut you off too. But what about that statue?"

"I'll try again," Claud replied. "If she really refuses to see me, I'll have to give it back to Julian."

"Yeah, that's probably all you can do," Mayo agreed.

Once he hung up, Claud didn't follow Winona any further.

Originally, Winona had planned to treat the three kids to a nice meal at the mall. But Claud's stalking put her on edge, so she rounded up the trio and headed home.

The next day—Monday—

Winona woke up early as usual, dropped Zane off at preschool, and drove to her office.

She worked through her to-do list, then headed to the hospital to visit Yves Prescott.

"We've broken ground on a few of the lots we bought ourselves," Yves told her. "Keep an eye on them, will you? With you overseeing things, I know we'll stay on schedule."

"Don't worry. I won't let anything slip through the cracks. I designed these projects myself—there isn't a single detail I don't know inside and out," Winona replied, her confidence unwavering.

"But don't forget the site we're developing with Julian," Yves reminded her. "You should check on their progress, see how badly they're screwing things up."

Winona laughed. "Got it! After I do a round at our sites, I'll swing by the joint project this afternoon—for a little entertainment."
