Julian didn't look at her.
Felicity felt a flush of embarrassment.
She could only laugh awkwardly to break the tension. "Now that Mr. Nicholson is back, we can get started. Let's begin with Mr. Bailey—could you give us an update on your end?"
Mr. Bailey's face was drawn with worry. "We're facing a problem: using large timber for the load-bearing sections has driven costs way over budget. And there's something else—the beams we've received are either too long or too short, even though the difference is slight. But in construction, a fraction of an inch can make all the difference. I'm worried the building won't be stable."
"We've run into the same issue," another engineer chimed in.
"And us as well!"
"It's the same across the board," a third added. "At first glance, everything looks fine, but there are these tiny discrepancies, and we can't figure out why. What's actually going on?"
The room rippled with anxious voices as the engineers discussed their confusion and concerns.
Julian, who was already on edge, felt his frustration rising.
The land was solid; the engineers were all top-notch—especially Felicity. Her plans had been reviewed and unanimously approved by everyone present. Any expert would have signed off on her blueprints without hesitation.
Felicity's retirement community design had won nothing but praise.
The plans couldn't possibly be at fault.
So where were these tiny errors coming from?
As Julian pondered, Felicity stood up. "I know exactly what's causing it—it's the timber. These days, most suppliers cut corners. The wood hasn't been fully dried out, so there's still moisture inside. That's what's leading to those slight variations in size. If we lay the beams out in the sun and let them dry completely, we won't have this issue again."
Her words were a revelation.
The engineers broke into applause, praising her. "Ms. Shepherd always knows what to do—your solution is simple and effective."
Such a thorny problem, solved so effortlessly by Felicity—Julian couldn't help but look at her with new admiration.
"Thank you, Felly," he said sincerely.
Felicity smiled, just as genuine. "Julian, you don't need to thank me. You know that."
