She hadn't moved. The situation felt wrong.
He had just smiled. "Are you afraid I'll do something inappropriate? I won't. We lived together for six years. I have that much self-control. You should know that about me, right?"
His words had made her feel a surge of shame. In six years, he had barely touched her. She had lived like a widow. Of course he wouldn't try anything now.
"You've successfully reminded me of my seven years of humiliation," she had said with a self-deprecating laugh, and followed him upstairs.
While she was looking for her clothes, he went to take a shower. His phone was on the nightstand. When it rang, he had shouted from the bathroom, "Winona, Winona, can you get that for me?"
He had called her name just like he used to when they lived together, asking her to answer his phone. Back then, she had often answered calls from Felicity, who would always say, "Tell Julian to hurry up. I'm waiting for him."
Now, she didn't want to answer his phone. But he had insisted. "It could be something important from the office. I dropped everything to come rescue you today. Can you please just answer it? If you don't want to, you can bring the phone to me, or I'll get out and answer it myself!"
Without thinking, she had grabbed the phone and answered. And of course, it was Felicity.
Winona had simply said, "Julian's in the shower," and hung up.
What would Felicity think? She would assume Winona was still clinging to Julian, refusing to let go. This disgusting, toxic rivalry… it made her sick.
After putting down the phone, Winona had grabbed the first outfit she could find and left the bedroom she had lived in for seven years. She had been sitting awkwardly in the living room ever since.
And now, Tiana was here, trying to get close to her. She couldn't let Felicity misunderstand again.
