The moment Julian walked in, he saw them: Winona, her family… and Yves Prescott.
Yves had been in Port City for the past two days on urgent business. He hadn't even finished when he heard about the online hate campaign targeting Winona in Greenwood City. He booked the first flight back, and without even stopping at his family's estate, he called her.
When he learned she was at a hotel Julian had arranged, Yves drove straight there, checked them all out, and moved them here instead. Had he known Julian also had a stake in The Grand Venezia, Julian was sure Yves would have never set foot inside.
Yves had brought back a trove of toys for Zane from Port City, things the little boy had never seen before. The two of them were now engaged in an epic toy battle right in the middle of the opulent hotel lobby. The vast, once-silent space now echoed with Zane's delighted, crystal-clear laughter.
"Come and get me, Dad! You can't catch me! My weapons are way better than yours!" Zane taunted, maneuvering his remote-controlled armored car with practiced ease.
"You little rascal!" Yves retorted playfully, rolling up his sleeves. "You think your old man can't take you? Watch me flip that tank of yours!"
But his skills were no match for Zane's. After just a few maneuvers, Yves's vehicle was overturned.
Zane lay on his back on the marble floor, laughing triumphantly.
Playing along, Yves sat on the floor, panting dramatically. "I can't… I can't do it. I'm getting old. The son has surpassed the father. You're a strong little guy, full of fire!"
Hearing the praise, Zane's laughter grew even more jubilant, his little legs kicking in the air with glee.
