"Winona, that's not what I meant. I was just trying to say…"
Despite the guilt he felt, he was still Julian Nicholson. When it came to his company and his business, there was no room for compromise.
"I'm saying that I was wrong during our marriage. I neglected you. That's our private life, and I can make it up to you, whatever it takes. But it cannot involve the company's affairs."
"Yes, Yves Prescott is pursuing you now. But Yves Prescott is my rival! In business, I cannot and will not yield to him. Maybe one day it will come down to a fight to the death between us, but that's just fate. No one is to blame!"
His expression was severe, unyielding. In that moment, Winona saw the decisive, ruthless businessman she had always known. Even while admitting his personal failings, when it came to his company, he was unwavering. He wouldn't change his stance, not even for her. Besides, he was still in a relationship with Felicity. Years of mutual attraction and affection couldn't just disappear overnight.
"I shouldn't have asked," Winona said softly. "You should take Tiana home. It's getting late for her. We'll see each other in court tomorrow morning."
"Alright." Julian nodded, then called out towards the play area. "Tiana, we're leaving!"
Tiana immediately ran over. As her father took her hand and led her away, she kept looking back at Winona. But Winona didn't spare her another glance. She walked straight to the elevator and went upstairs.
No sooner had Julian settled Tiana in the car than his phone rang. It was Felicity.
