Irene nodded. "Of course I mean it, Mr. Winslow! If you still have doubts, I can sign an agreement with you right now."
Victor shook her hand enthusiastically. "No need for a contract, Academician Chatham. We're just grateful you're willing to give Apex this opportunity."
Irene smiled warmly. "Actually, I should be thanking you. It's been ages since I've seen a company so dedicated to preserving traditional culture! I truly believe that once your game launches, more young people will discover—and fall in love with—the treasures our ancestors left us."
It was a win-win partnership.
Irene had every confidence that Apex wouldn't let her down.
After settling on the signing date, Caitlin and Victor took their leave.
Irene personally walked Caitlin to the door.
By the time Larkin returned, Caitlin and Victor were already gone.
He looked at his mother, curiosity lighting his eyes. "So, you've decided to work with Miss Kensington?"
"Yes, I have," Irene replied with a nod.
Larkin grinned. "Mom, you've always hated feeling obligated to repay favors. I never thought you'd cave in the end."
To Larkin, it seemed obvious: his mother had agreed to the collaboration only because Caitlin had saved her life. After all, Irene had always steered clear of business deals with strings attached.
To outsiders, the Chatham family had a reputation for being above it all.
Besides, Irene had already promised The Chandler Group that she'd take three days to consider. Yet here she was, choosing Apex Game Studios before the deadline.
Irene clarified, "I chose to work with Miss Kensington because I genuinely love Apex Game Studios' proposal and the vision for their game. They're not just making a game—they're truly committed to honoring tradition. I see real hope for cultural preservation in what they're doing."
Larkin's eyes widened. It was rare for him to hear his mother praise anyone like this.
Working for Irene hadn't just meant a great salary and benefits; it gave her access to high society and made her family proud.
Now, she had nothing.
If it hadn't been for Cynthia, she never would have crossed Caitlin, never would have been fired by Irene, and never would have lost the one job that made her family beam with pride.
The more Wendy thought about it, the angrier she grew. She pulled out her phone and called Cynthia.
Cynthia was soaking in the bath when she saw Wendy's name light up her phone. A smug smile played at her lips. If Wendy was calling now, it had to be good news.
After all, for Wendy, getting Caitlin and Victor thrown out of the lab was child's play.
Cynthia couldn't help picturing Caitlin and Victor's mortified faces as they were shown the door. Her smile grew even more self-satisfied, and she answered in a breezy, delighted tone. "Wendy, is it all taken care of? Thank you! I'll treat you to dinner sometime."
