THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 127

Caitlin's voice wasn't loud, nor was it soft, but it cut through the room with an icy chill that sent shivers down everyone's spine.

Latham was stunned, beads of cold sweat forming on his brow, his face the very picture of someone caught red-handed. He never expected Caitlin not only to grasp every detail of the contract, but to mark and correct every single unreasonable clause.

She… she'd read the whole thing so quickly.

It was terrifying.

Absolutely terrifying.

Caitlin was simply too formidable.

All of this had happened in just three minutes. In that brief time, she not only flagged every problem with the contract, but also added a few clauses of her own, and did so with such professional precision that even Latham, a seasoned veteran of the business world, found himself struggling to keep up.

If Caitlin weren't so young, he'd have sworn she was a top-notch corporate lawyer.

It was only then that Latham realized he was out of his depth today—he'd run straight into a heavyweight.

He never should have tried to take advantage of her youth.

Drawing a shaky breath, Latham looked up at Caitlin, forced himself to find the right words, and, cheeks burning, stammered, "Miss Kensington, I…I'm terribly sorry. I'll have my assistant correct the contract right away. Thank you for giving me another chance."

He started to raise his hand to call his assistant, then seemed to think better of it. "No, I'll do it myself. Miss Kensington, if you'll excuse me for a moment, I'll print the corrected contract personally and make sure there are no more mistakes."

"Go ahead," Caitlin replied, shooting him a level glance, her entire bearing radiating the unassailable confidence of someone used to being in charge.

The tension in the air was suffocating.

Latham could barely breathe until he stepped out of the office, and only then did the weight on his chest ease the slightest bit.

He let out a long breath as he reached the copy room, slumping for a moment against the wall.

She was just nineteen, a kid, really—yet the pressure she exerted felt like that of a senior executive.

"Blake, congratulations! Heard you just pulled one over on a clueless kid," came a voice—Latham's friend, Cash Sterling. "No more walking on eggshells for you; from now on, someone else takes the fall if anything goes wrong!"

After all, everyone knows the ways to make money are all written in the criminal code.

With someone to take the heat, what did Latham have to worry about?

"Shh! Keep it down. Kid? More like a living legend!" Latham clapped a hand over Cash's mouth.

Cash looked at him in surprise. "What are you talking about?"

Latham handed him the contract. "Just look at this."

Cash took the contract and, as his eyes scanned the notes scribbled in the margins, his expression shifted to outright disbelief.

"Wait—wasn't she supposed to be here alone? Did she bring a lawyer or something?" Cash asked, frowning.

Latham shook his head. "No lawyer. She did it all herself."

"No way," Cash said, incredulous. "Are you serious?"

Latham grabbed it, gave Cash a quick nod, and headed back to the office.

He returned, a look of genuine respect on his face. "Miss Kensington, here's the new contract for your review."

Caitlin took the document and flipped through it at lightning speed. Despite how fast she read, she didn't miss a single word.

Once she was satisfied, she signed her name.

"Congratulations, Miss Kensington," Latham said, "you've officially acquired Elite Properties."

"Thank you." Caitlin stood up.

"Would you like me to give you a tour of the company?" Latham offered quickly.

She nodded faintly. "That would be great."

"This way, please." Latham gave a slight bow.

Caitlin followed him down the hallway.

Elite Properties wasn't large—just over twenty people in a sea of cubicles.

It was six-thirty that evening when Caitlin finally arrived home.
