THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 141

Beatrice's words carried a double meaning.

Not only did she mean that Caitlin had a special bond with cats, but with people as well.

Snow, after all, was originally Gordon's cat. So, if someone was destined to get close to Caitlin, naturally, it would be Gordon.

The more Beatrice thought about it, the happier she became. She could already picture Gordon successfully bringing Caitlin home as his bride.

Caitlin, surprised by Beatrice's comment, glanced at Gordon. She never would have guessed that someone as cool and aloof as Gordon—always acting above it all, as if nothing in the world could interest him—would actually bring home a stray kitten from the street.

And to raise a newborn kitten so well, he must have put a lot of care and attention into it.

With a soft smile, Caitlin looked at Gordon. "How did you get Snow so chubby?"

Her smile was dazzling, her bright eyes sparkling with a mischievous light that seemed to draw people in. Gordon suddenly found it hard to look directly at her.

"She's not picky," he replied.

Caitlin chuckled. "So, how many cans does Snow go through at each meal?"

"Three, at least," Gordon answered.

"Three cans? Plus regular cat food?" Caitlin asked, eyebrows raised.

Gordon nodded. "Besides the cans and dry food, she gets fifty grams of raw beef and a few treats after dinner, and she always finishes with some goat's milk. She's got a big appetite and doesn't turn her nose up at anything."

"No wonder she's so fat!" Caitlin laughed. "Sounds like Snow needs to go on a bit of a diet, or she'll end up with high cholesterol, maybe even heart trouble. Mr. Sylvester, you spoil her like this and she'll be the death of herself!"

At this, Gordon reached over and patted Snow on the head. "You hear that? Less food from now on."

"Mrow!" Snow protested, turning her head away from Gordon in defiance.

Caitlin cuddled Snow and said gently, "Snow, listen to your dad. Eat a little less if you want to stay healthy."

"Meow, meow, meow!" Snow stomped her little paw in protest, as if to say, "I'm not listening, I'm not listening!"

Gordon's gaze happened to fall on Snow's paw—then his face darkened.

This wretched cat!

Where was she putting her paw?

Sensing her dad's death glare, Snow quickly moved her paw off Caitlin's chest.

Oh no, Dad is scary!

Once Snow had moved her paw, Gordon's expression returned to normal.

From then on, Caitlin sat cuddling Snow, chatting easily with everyone as Gordon and Skyler sat nearby, keeping her company. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed.

Beatrice sat at the head of the table and introduced the dishes to Caitlin. "Catie, over here we have some classic spicy dishes, here are some light and savory ones, and on this side some traditional favorites. Since I wasn't sure what you'd like best, I asked our chefs to prepare a variety. Please, make yourself at home."

The Sylvester family employed more than twenty chefs, each specializing in different cuisines.

"Thank you, Mrs. Sylvester," Caitlin said politely.

Beatrice waved her off. "Oh, sweetheart, you don't need to be so formal!"

Alaina smiled and said, "Gordon, you're a little older than Catie and you're sitting right next to her. A girl's hands are delicate, and it's tough to peel shrimp or crack crab shells—make sure to help her out, okay?"

"Of course, sis," Gordon replied.

Caitlin didn't think much of his answer—until a moment later, a perfectly shelled crab leg appeared in her bowl, placed there by a strong, elegant hand.

She looked up in surprise, catching a glimpse of Gordon's sharp profile—high cheekbones, a straight nose, and lips pressed in a faint, restrained smile. Noticing her gaze, he turned slightly and said in his deep, magnetic voice, "Not a fan of crab? Want me to peel you some shrimp instead?"

"Sure," Caitlin replied, matching his calmness with her own. If someone was offering to do the work for her, why not enjoy it?

Beatrice and Alaina exchanged a look, barely able to contain their grins.

Maybe they weren't the only ones hoping for a match after all!

Even Skyler was stunned. My god! Is that really my uncle, peeling shrimp for a girl? If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he never would have believed it.
