THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 152

Although Beatrice had told her that Snow was mostly left to roam outside and sometimes disappeared for days on end, Caitlin never expected the big cat to actually find her way to their house.

Fortune laughed, "No wonder she's been lounging on our porch and refusing to leave! She must have followed the scent all the way here—this cat is too clever. But you know what's really strange? When Keeley and I tried to pick her up just now, she wouldn't let either of us hold her. Yet in your arms, she's as docile as a stuffed animal!"

Caitlin grinned. "That's just how Snow is—she's a little wary of strangers."

"I see," Fortune nodded. "Catie, I sliced up some watermelon and put it in the fridge. Don't forget to have some later."

"Thanks, Grandpa!"

Caitlin absolutely adored this chubby cat. Hugging Snow as she walked into the kitchen, she cooed, "Well, since you're already here, you can sleep with me tonight! You can go home tomorrow, all right?"

"Meow meow!"

Yeah! The kitty was thrilled!

Meanwhile—

Gareth and Victor were sitting at a roadside grill, sharing a late dinner.

After Victor hung up his call, Gareth looked over, curiosity piqued. "So, what did Miss Kensington say?"

Victor picked up a skewer and replied, "Miss Kensington said we don't need backup."

Gareth was surprised. "She's that confident?"

Victor set down his glass. "Don't get ahead of yourselves, Babur, Hudson. The game's not over yet—you might want to be careful you don't pull something while you're busy gloating."

Babur snorted. "Oh please, Victor, get real! The Chandler Group's ‘Event Horizon' is about to hit twenty million pre-registrations, while you guys can barely scrape together a pathetic hundred thousand. What do you even have to compete with? Just wait—ruin is right around the corner for you. Better get used to living under a bridge!"

At this point, Apex was like a fish in a barrel, just waiting to be crushed by The Chandler Group—unless they could actually pull off a triple-A release.

But… was that even possible? For Apex, it might as well be trying to reach the moon.

Babur and Hudson were both deeply relieved they'd jumped ship when they did. Otherwise, they'd be going down with the sinking company.

"Mr. Blake, that's not very charitable," Hudson said in mock concern. "After all, Mr. Winslow's been a friend for years. We can't just stand by and let him end up homeless. As it happens, my wife needs someone to drive our little dog back and forth to puppy preschool. Once Apex goes under, Mr. Winslow, you've got plenty of experience behind the wheel—I'm sure you'd make a great chauffeur for our pup!"
