No one could have guessed just how worked up Julian was at this moment.
He'd waited so long for this. So long, in fact, that it felt surreal to finally see this day arrive.
Now, The Chandler Group—and his own name—were all over the trending news.
Any minute now.
The Chandler Group's stock price would skyrocket!
He was about to make his comeback and become the number one figure in the Eldermere gaming world!
The thought alone made Julian's face glow with smug satisfaction.
Seeing Julian like this, Dalton hurried to clarify, "That's not it! Julian, you've got it wrong! It's Caitlin—Caitlin and Apex Game Studios, along with their new title, Imperial Ascent, that are trending everywhere."
"Caitlin really did lead Apex to finish a AAA game!"
"And get this—Imperial Ascent has already hit a hundred million downloads since its launch last night!"
But that wasn't even the most astonishing part.
There wasn't a single negative review for Imperial Ascent.
Apex Game Studios had actually pulled off the impossible—developing the very first AAA game in the country.
And it wasn't just a national success.
The quality of their game was among the best in the world.
Dalton pressed on, "Their game isn't just blowing up in Eldermere. It's gone viral overseas too. I heard that GD—the global gaming giant—has already sent people over to negotiate a licensing deal!"
GD. The ultimate heavyweight in the industry.
Even they were willing to fly out here and sit down at the table with Apex. That alone was enough to prove how outstanding Imperial Ascent was.
If Apex's game rights were sold abroad, Apex would soar to untouchable heights!
Even if Apex Game Studios did nothing new for the next thirty years, no one would be able to surpass them.
What?!
Julian listened to Dalton, half-convinced he was still dreaming.
Yes, that had to be it—he was dreaming!
Caitlin!
How could that country bumpkin Caitlin have possibly completed a AAA game in just one month?
Impossible. Absolutely impossible!
How could everything turn upside down overnight?
Yesterday, all eyes had still been on him.
Him!
It was supposed to be him!
"This is nonsense! It's all a lie! You're lying to me!" Julian roared, his voice cracking. "Who does Caitlin think she is? She was just my lapdog—how could she have what it takes to pull off a AAA game?"
"Julian, I know this is a lot to take in all at once, but…" Dalton let out a long breath, "It's true. Caitlin actually did it."
Only now did Dalton dare to believe it himself.
All those old rumors were true.
Eighty percent of Julian's meteoric rise was thanks to Caitlin.
Otherwise, why would The Chandler Group have started collapsing the moment Caitlin left?
And why would the chaotic mess that was Apex suddenly reach the very pinnacle?
Just like the name of their new game: Imperial Ascent.
All color drained from Julian's face. His hands shook as he grabbed his phone off the desk.
As soon as he unlocked it, a barrage of news notifications popped up.
Almost every headline was about Apex or Caitlin.
[Mystery Woman: Miss Kensington!]
[Miss Kensington—Mother of AAA Games!]
Julian glared at Dalton and snapped, "Go tell Caitlin! She's won. I'll agree to get back together with her. Tell her to come home right now!"
Disgusting.
Caitlin was revolting. She'd stooped to any means just to remarry him.
He'd underestimated her, that was certain.
In the past, Julian wouldn't have agreed to take Caitlin back even if his life depended on it.
But now…
Now, things were different.
Apex had developed a AAA game. If he didn't make a move soon, even the Celestial Awards would fall into Apex's hands, and The Chandler Group would become nothing but a relic of the past—yesterday's news, forgotten by all.
As CEO of The Chandler Group, Julian would never allow that to happen.
No matter what it took—whatever the cost—he would find a way to survive this.
Which meant he had to swallow his pride.
Even knowing this was Caitlin's trap, he had no choice but to walk right in.
Dalton stared at him, wide-eyed. "R-remarry?!"
"Yes!" Julian forced the word out, his face twisted in disgust. "Isn't this what Caitlin's been after all along? She wants me to come crawling back, to beg her to take me back!"
"What about Sophie?" Dalton pressed. "You're already engaged."
"That's just a temporary arrangement! Sure, I'll remarry Caitlin in name, but Sophie is still my fiancée!"
Sophie was the love of Julian's life.
There was no way he'd give her up for Caitlin.
Dalton frowned. "Julian, you're being naive. You really think you can just snap your fingers and Caitlin will come running back? She's not the same woman she used to be."
Ha!
Julian let out a cold laugh. "Dalton, you give her too much credit! Why do you think Caitlin did all this? Why help Apex? She just wanted my attention. In the end, all she wants is to get back together!"
