THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 187

When Skyler saw Gordon's reply, she nearly blacked out.

Honestly, at this point, she had no words left for her uncle.

[Boss Caitlin literally saved your life! Are you really not going to do anything for her birthday?]

This time, Gordon didn't reply right away.

Because he was already driving toward Willow Park Gardens.

11:30 p.m.

Gordon's car rolled to a stop in front of Building 5.

He'd never given a gift to a girl before.

To say he wasn't nervous would be a lie.

According to Google, the best time to give a birthday present is right at midnight.

So, he wasn't in a hurry.

He sat in the driver's seat, waiting patiently.

Every two minutes, he checked the time on his phone.

How strange—time that usually slipped by so quickly was now crawling at a snail's pace.

For the first time, Gordon truly understood what it meant for every second to feel like an eternity.

Ding!

11:45 p.m.

Gordon immediately pulled out his phone and messaged Caitlin on WhatsApp.

At this hour, she was probably asleep.

He wanted to give her a bit of time to get dressed, and she'd have to wait on the elevator, too.

By the time she got downstairs, it'd be just about midnight.

Meanwhile, Caitlin had just wrapped up some work and was standing at her window, gazing out at the city lights, when her phone vibrated.

She glanced at the screen.

A WhatsApp message from Gordon.

[Catie, come downstairs.]

Downstairs?

Caitlin blinked, confused, and texted back: [Why?]

[I'm outside your building.]

He glanced at his watch, disappointed.

After all that planning, he still hadn't managed to time it perfectly.

But he sent Caitlin another WhatsApp anyway.

[Catie, I'm here. Can you come down?]

Caitlin had no idea what could possibly be so urgent at this hour, but she still came downstairs.

Knowing Gordon, he wouldn't have shown up in the middle of the night unless it was something important.

His car was waiting by the wrought-iron gates of the villa.

He leaned against the door, half in shadow.

Moonlight washed over his face, lending him an ethereal air—he looked almost unearthly, as if he'd stepped straight out of a dream.

"Gordon."

Caitlin pushed open the gate and found herself momentarily dazed by the sight. No one is immune to beauty, and Caitlin was no exception.

For a second, she just stood there, caught off guard.

At the sound of her voice, Gordon looked up.

She'd already showered—her hair was down and loose instead of in her usual messy bun, giving her a casual, effortless beauty. Her eyes were bright and clear, subtly inviting, and though she wore only a simple hoodie, nothing could disguise the natural grace that set her apart.
