THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 20

"Absolutely, no problem!" Victor agreed without a second thought.

Caitlin was the kind of rare talent you could only hope to stumble upon—and on top of that, she could solve Apex Game Studios' financial crisis.

If bringing Apex back to life meant giving away fifty percent of the shares, Victor would do it in a heartbeat. Sixty percent? He wouldn't even hesitate.

"You're a straightforward man, Mr. Winslow."

Victor smiled. "Miss Kensington, do you have time to visit the company with me now? We can sign the contract right away."

"Of course," Caitlin replied with a slight nod.

Victor had driven over, so when they stepped out of the café, he hurried to open the back door for Caitlin with a kind of deference more fitting for a chauffeur than the company's CEO.

The office was only a fifteen-minute drive away. After the contracts were signed, Victor personally walked Caitlin outside.

At the company entrance, Caitlin stopped. "This is far enough. I'll send you the new project plan and script tonight. Let's aim to launch your AAA game within a month—and bring home The Celestial Awards."

Victor's eyes lit up with hope. "Thank you. I look forward to it."

"And one more thing," Caitlin added, "I'll need ten assistants."

"That's no problem at all. I'll have them add you on WhatsApp. If you need anything, just message them there."

"Perfect."

After leaving Apex Group, Caitlin swung by the electronics market; she needed a new laptop she could really work with.

She browsed dozens of stores before finally spotting a model that met her standards—though she'd have to tweak and upgrade a few components herself.

The next day—Monday.

Julian woke up early, ready to head downtown with Caitlin to finalize their divorce.

As he came downstairs, Vida hurried to intercept him. "Julian, that country bumpkin will probably threaten to kill herself in public again. I'm begging you, don't soften up this time! When the moment comes, don't you dare back out."

The Chandler family had just managed to shake off Caitlin's entanglement. They couldn't afford to go through that ordeal again.

Vida was mortified at the thought of being the butt of society gossip because of her "country bumpkin" daughter-in-law. It didn't matter that Julian had become a rising star in the financial world; among the society wives, she couldn't hold her head high. Everyone else's daughters-in-law were from prestigious families; hers hadn't even finished high school!

Thanks to Caitlin, Vida had even been cropped out of the big group photo at the last charity event!

There was no denying it—Caitlin had dragged down the entire Chandler family's status.

Julian nodded. "Relax, Mom. I know what I'm doing."

He wasn't stupid.

Julian's eyes widened in shock.

That voice—

Why did it sound so familiar?

Turning slowly, he looked at Caitlin, and surprise flooded his face.

This… this was Caitlin?

They'd been married for a year, but Julian had never realized that beneath her bare face, Caitlin looked like this.

He hated to admit it, but she was… stunning.

He snapped out of it almost immediately.

This had to be one of Caitlin's new tricks. No makeup. No frumpy gray clothes. Was she going for the innocent, pure look now? Trying to get his attention with this pathetic routine?

Leopards never change their spots.

Julian's expression hardened with disgust. "Caitlin, what exactly are you trying to pull?"
