And now, as if that weren’t enough, she was suddenly the most popular girl in school—outshining Laurel and crowned the new queen bee!
Why? Seriously, why her?
Grace was just as stunned. “Wait, it really is her?”
Seeing their reactions, Laurel frowned in confusion. “You two know that plastic princess up there on stage?”
In Laurel’s mind, no one could possibly look that flawless without a little help.
So, obviously, Caitlin had to have had work done!
Grace nodded. “She’s some distant relative of Bonnie’s. And, get this—she’s divorced!”
She made sure to stress those last three words.
Divorced.
“Divorced?” Laurel’s face twisted with disdain. “I knew she couldn’t be normal!”
What decent person gets married and divorced at such a young age?
Disgusting.
Caitlin’s voice was smooth and captivating, her speech both moving and eloquent. The students listened with rapt attention, and even the principal and teachers were hanging on her every word.
“Ms. Belinda, your class has a real dark horse here. She’s going places, mark my words!”
“I know, right? It’s so rare to see a student this outstanding in all my years of teaching.”
The compliments just kept coming. Ms. Belinda basked in the praise, watching Caitlin on stage with a proud smile. “She really is exceptional,” she agreed.
On stage, Caitlin was wrapping up her 800-word speech.
Everyone knew Celeste was likely the Hayes family heiress!
Hearing this, Bonnie’s head snapped up.
Sure enough, Caitlin was chatting and laughing with a short-haired girl.
But when Bonnie caught a clear look at Celeste’s face, her jealousy quickly turned to scorn. “Laurel, you’re saying that short-haired girl talking to Caitlin is the Hayes family heiress, Celeste?”
“That’s right. I asked around—she’s definitely Celeste,” Laurel replied, nodding.
Bonnie snorted. “If that’s Celeste, then there’s no way the Hayes heiress is really named Celeste. We’ve got the wrong girl.”
“Why?” Laurel and Grace exchanged puzzled glances. “Bonnie, how can you be so sure the Hayes heiress isn’t named Celeste?”
“The Hayes family is old money—literally the most prestigious family in Port Metropolis. Their daughter is a real debutante,” Bonnie said, eyes narrowing. “Do you seriously think a girl like that would ever be caught dead eating at some greasy diner by the road?”
