THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 24

The more Victor thought about it, the angrier he became. He wished he could march right up to Jasper, that ungrateful traitor, and give him the beating he deserved.

In stark contrast to Victor's rage, Caitlin remained calm and composed. She spoke slowly, "Mr. Winslow, now isn't the time to settle scores. Just send me Jasper's assignments—I'll handle them. Focus on your own responsibilities, and don't let irrelevant people distract you."

"But Miss Kensington, Jasper's job is complicated, I'm worried that—"

Before he could finish, Caitlin cut him off. "Worried about what? I'm here, aren't I? Send me what you have, and all you need to do is concentrate on your own work. Don't let outsiders throw you off."

With that, Caitlin didn't wait for a response and simply hung up.

Oddly enough, the doubts Victor had about Caitlin's ability to take over for Jasper vanished after hearing her speak. Confidence surged through him, and he headed straight down to the 3A Project office.

The Kensington family.

Caitlin fastened the last component in place and pressed the power button.

Ding!

In just a second, the computer whirred to life.

Sitting cross-legged on the floor, Caitlin yawned. "Looks like it's going to be another sleepless night."

After leaving city hall, Julian returned home.

Seeing him back so early, Vida hurried to greet him. "Julian, did that country girl even show up? I knew it—she'd never let you sign the divorce papers so easily!"

"She was there," Julian replied, pulling a red booklet from his bag. "Here's the divorce certificate."

"What?" Vida took it, eyes wide in disbelief. "Are you sure this isn't a fake? Did she forge it?"

She couldn't believe Caitlin would actually go through with the divorce. It was like seeing pigs fly.

"It's real. The clerk at city hall handed it to me personally," Julian said, narrowing his eyes. "But Caitlin still loves me. She just wants me to regret this and start chasing after her. As if! Does she really think she's all that? I could never fall for someone like her. Mom, you need to be careful these days. If Caitlin can't reach me, she'll probably come looking for you. Don't give her the time of day—she'll take a mile if you give her an inch!"

Julian wanted nothing more than to be rid of Caitlin and have her out of his life for good.

Vida nodded. "Don't worry, Julian, I've already told the housekeeper—if that country girl shows up, she's to be thrown out immediately!"

After making sure his mother understood, Julian headed to The Chandler Group.

10:30 PM.

Knock, knock, knock—

A knock sounded through the quiet office.

"Come in," Julian said, setting his paperwork aside.

"I'd say The Celestial Awards are yours for the taking this year," Dalton said, unable to hide his admiration.

A glint of determination flashed in Julian's eyes. The Celestial Awards belonged to him—who could possibly compete?

Just then, Dalton seemed to remember something. "Oh, Julian, there's one more thing."

"What is it?" Julian asked.

Dalton hesitated, then spoke. "I heard Victor just recruited another big name for Apex—a real heavyweight. She's supposed to get their 3A game to market in just a month and compete for The Celestial Awards."

"A heavyweight?" Julian instantly felt a twinge of unease. "Who is it?"

"Her last name's Kensington. I'm not sure of her first name." Dalton paused, then added, "Julian, do you think this Miss Kensington could be… Caitlin?"

"If it really is Caitlin, do you think she could pose a threat to The Chandler Group?"

Apex Game Studios might be teetering on the brink, but there was still value in acquiring them. Julian had planned to snap them up for a bargain.

But now, Caitlin might just throw a wrench into his plans.

Dalton couldn't help but worry that Caitlin's involvement would complicate the acquisition.

At the mention of Caitlin's name, the anxiety on Julian's face vanished, replaced by open mockery. "Oh, her? Seriously? She couldn't even finish high school, and you think she's going to turn Apex Game Studios around? That's like a mouse trying to shake an oak tree. Completely laughable."
