Vida spoke with absolute confidence.
She knew Caitlin better than anyone.
Sure, Caitlin had put on a bold front in front of her and Veronica today, but if Julian was the one standing there, Caitlin's attitude would change in an instant.
The moment Caitlin laid eyes on Julian, she would lose all composure—begging him in tears to forgive her, pleading for a second chance at their marriage.
And honestly, Vida was starting to get nervous.
Even if Caitlin's supposed "good luck for her husband" was just a myth, there was no denying her close relationship with Alaina. Bringing Caitlin back could only help the Chandler Group—not hurt it.
Alaina was Gordon's sister, and she adored Caitlin. If Caitlin so much as said a few words in Alaina's ear, Alaina would be sure to put in a good word for the Chandler Group with Gordon.
That way, there'd be no need to worry about landing bigger contracts in the future.
Julian let out a cold, dismissive laugh when he heard his mother's suggestion. "You want me to invite that country girl back? She's not even worth it."
What was Caitlin, anyway?
Did she really deserve the honor of him personally asking her to return?
And what if Caitlin used it to force him into remarrying her?
Vida frowned. "So what exactly do you plan to do?"
A smug smile curled at Julian's lips. "Relax, Mom. My engagement party with Sophie is just around the corner. Caitlin will be begging to come back. She'll be completely at my mercy—if I say jump, she won't even think of running the other way!"
By the time he finished, Julian's eyes were brimming with self-assurance.
Vida nodded in agreement. "You're right. Caitlin loves you so much, there's no way she'll sit still. On the day of your engagement to Sophie, I bet she'll show up just to cause a scene."
The thought alone made Vida giddy with anticipation.
"You shouldn't have spent your money on me. I've got more clothes than I can wear!" Fortune grumbled, but he was obviously delighted as he took the bag and went to change.
A few minutes later, Fortune emerged from his room, beaming. "Catie, look! Don't you think I look ten years younger in this?"
"You absolutely do," Caitlin replied with a smile. "Grandpa, you look wonderful. Does it fit okay?"
"It fits perfectly!" Fortune grinned. "You know, one of my coworkers told me his daughter got him a T-shirt just like this. I always thought he looked sharp in it."
He'd envied that coworker before.
Who would have thought his own granddaughter would buy him not just one, but a whole set!
Caitlin eyed the outfit and asked, "Grandpa, are the pant legs a little too long?"
"Not at all. If they are, I can just roll them up," Fortune said cheerfully. Wearing something his granddaughter picked out for him filled him with genuine happiness. "But you really shouldn't be spending your money like this."
