"As for the second possibility," Jaime paused mid-twirl of his pen, his sharp gaze locking onto the Elder. "Maybe Keir's niece has some extraordinary talents."
The Elder waved off the idea without hesitation. "You really think someone raised outside their family could be that impressive?"
"Even if she grew up in luxury, could she really match someone like Penelope, who's been groomed for greatness?"
"Still, we can't let the heir fall into Keir's branch," the Elder insisted.
Miss Mira might not be a big deal, but Nick? Now, he's a different story.
Seeing the Elder's concern, Jaime smirked. "Someone with flaws and weaknesses is easy to handle."
The Elder reminisced for a moment, a cryptic smile crossing his face. "True."
He realized he'd been overly cautious, missing other angles.
"Let's find a time to invite Melissa, Cherry's mom, for dinner," Jaime suggested out of the blue.
The Elder caught the drift and nodded. "Alright."
Melissa's family might not be major players, but Penelope always listens to her. Controlling Melissa would give them leverage over Penelope.
Meanwhile, Nick and Grady returned to the main estate.
"Uncle, why'd you go along with the heir assessment today?" Nick asked, puzzled.
Grady, holding the heir assessment criteria, thought for a moment. "Choosing an heir is inevitable. If we block it today, it'll just come up again."
