Grady saw he had successfully changed the subject and quickly dropped a name, "James."
That guy was really something else, always pushing buttons, and someone needed to put him in his place.
Jim heard the name and thought it sounded familiar. Within moments, he recalled, "The guy in charge at the Weapons Bureau?"
The guild had some dealings with them, so Jim wasn't completely in the dark about who James was.
Grady nodded, "Yep, that's him."
"He's chasing after Mira?" Jim's voice was tinged with anger. His niece was still so young. "How dare he?"
Grady rubbed his nose, thinking that James not only dared, but had already gotten his way.
"Miss Mira is beautiful and smart; it's no surprise she'd catch some attention," Grady remarked.
"As if!" Jim slapped the armrest of his wheelchair, feeling frustrated. He fiddled with the joystick and turned his chair in another direction.
Grady noticed his movement, "Heading out already, sir?"
Jim gave him a look, "Shouldn’t a patient be resting up in the hospital?"
"Oh, so you do remember you're supposed to be taking it easy," Grady quipped.
Jim: "..."
"Miss Mira doesn’t even know you're up and about. Should I ring her up?" Grady suggested.
Recalling the young lady’s earlier demeanor, Jim shook his head. "No need, after all these years, I might as well take a long vacation."
Having been by Jim's side for decades, Grady got the hint right away and nodded, "Understood."
