The Double or more Life of the Fake Heiress (Mirabella) novel Chapter 1815

The hallway outside was eerily quiet, but Curtis was well aware that every step he took was being watched by the cameras above. After mulling things over, he decided to head back to the control room. Until he got a clearer picture of what was going on, he had to stay under the radar.

As he reached the door, Curtis absently lifted his hand, his fingers brushing the button on his collar, when he noticed something odd—the iris scanner on the door was off. It had been on when he went to the restroom earlier, so why was it off now?

Feeling puzzled, Curtis opted not to reactivate the signal jammer and stepped into the control room. With the alarm having gone off in Zone A, all the tech staff were busy at their stations. Curtis scanned the room and made his way over to his two colleagues.

"What do you need me to do?" he asked quietly.

One of them looked up briefly. "Someone's broken into Zone A. For now, just keep an eye on the southeast section. If you spot anything weird, alert the security team right away."

A flicker of something crossed Curtis’s eyes as he nodded. "Got it."

"Mr. Hartlee's headed to Zone A himself. Let's hope they nab the intruder soon, or we're in for some rough days ahead," the colleague sighed.

Curtis felt a jolt of worry. Even though he hadn’t been at the base long, he had a general sense of who the top dogs were. Mr. Hartlee was rumored to be tight with King, the guy in charge, and he managed the whole central core area. Curtis didn’t know much about Mr. Hartlee’s skills, but anyone in his position had to be pretty sharp.

Recalling Mirabella’s earlier warnings, Curtis figured the intruder might be the friend she had mentioned. With Hartlee personally involved, things were definitely getting complicated.

**Meanwhile, in a different part of town.**

James and Mirabella had just arrived at a nearby town. This place, nestled in the hills, was different from the neatly organized European towns. The buildings were scattered along the foothills, giving off a modern tribal feel.
