The call was still ongoing when Santos glanced up and spotted Mirabella emerging from the townhouse. His words trailed off, and he instinctively stepped back, blending into the shadows.
Before stepping out, Mirabella had already put on a mask and pulled the hood of her sweatshirt over her head. Her slightly messy bangs obscured her eyes, making her features even harder to discern. The streetlights flickered on, casting a glow over the dimming sky, and soon, she vanished down the street.
Santos stepped out, phone still in hand, his gaze lingering where Mirabella had disappeared. He changed his tone, "No need to send anyone over. Also, have the security team temporarily scale back a third of the base's entry defenses."
"Why?" came the puzzled voice on the other end.
"Just trust me on this. I have my reasons," Santos replied, not offering further details.
"Alright, but I'll need to inform the higher-ups," the voice hesitated before adding, "The main base just dealt with an intrusion. If we suddenly drop our guard, the intruder might slip away."
Santos was visibly taken aback but quickly reasoned that Cian wouldn’t show up without a good cause. He could almost guess the identity of this intruder.
A cold smirk crossed Santos's lips. Arrogant as ever. But this made things simpler—no need for elaborate plans anymore.
Soon enough, Santos ended the call and let his small pet out of his pocket before he headed back to the base.
