After Curtis discovered Mirabella's familiar interference tactics at the first base, he'd been in his own little world, trying to process it all for the past couple of days. He'd hoped that by not mentioning it, he could just erase the truth he stumbled upon from his mind. But now, he knew that wasn't going to happen.
Wyatt noticed Curtis suddenly coughing, and shot him a curious look. "Hey Curtis, what's up? Got something caught in your throat?"
Curtis felt a surge of annoyance but managed to reply, "Nah, I'm good."
James cast a glance at the two before turning back to Mirabella. "You want to go along?"
Mirabella nodded, pulling off an impressively shy look. "I've never seen a real treasure before. I thought it'd be a good experience."
Curtis felt a twitch of skepticism. If James's personal vault hadn't been hacked before, he might've bought that excuse.
James, however, didn't call out his wealthy girlfriend's act. Instead, he asked with a smirk, "Aren't you tied up with your inheritance stuff? Got the time?"
Mentioning the inheritance seemed to flick a switch in Mirabella. Her eyes turned icy, as if the room temperature dropped a few degrees. "I'll make time," she said flatly.
James raised an eyebrow. Was she feeling the heat? Wyatt and Curtis had originally come over to chat about the archaeology team's plans. Hearing this, Wyatt jumped right in, "I'll let the archaeology team know we've got another spot to fill."
Ms. Mirabella probably knew a thing or two about ancient puzzles; otherwise, she wouldn't have slipped into the first base so easily the other day. That entrance was famous for being a tough nut to crack.
Wyatt finished speaking and shot Curtis a look that said, 'Let's go.'
Curtis just nodded and followed Wyatt out. In the car, Curtis was still lost in thought. Wyatt didn't start the engine right away. Instead, he made a quick call to the archaeology team. Once done, he finally started the car and said, "You know, Ms. Mirabella might actually be a big help to the team."
