Sierra glanced down at the shadow on the ground and froze. There was no way to talk her way out of this–Zada had seen everything.
At this point, there was no use pretending anymore. Her fake smile vanished, and her face darkened. “Well,” since you already know the truth, there’s nothing left for me to say.”
Zada stared at Sierra, hurt and confused. “Why are you doing this? I thought we were best friends!”
“Best friends?” Sierra snapped. “You really think of me that way? All you ever cared about was Halsey! Every time she and I argued, you took her side without a second thought. You were never really with me!”
Zada’s anger flared. “I can’t believe that’s what you think! You honestly think I never supported you?”
Sierra shot back, “You never did! When the rumors about me and Mr. Lane started spreading, you told me to clear things up with the press for Halsey’s sake!”
Zada let out a bitter laugh. “Do you even hear yourself right now? I told you to deny it because I know Mr. Lane- he’s not that kind of man. He’s not interested in you, and he wouldn’t ever go after you like that.”
Sierra’s eyes narrowed. “So what, you think I’ve got something to do with the scandal?”
“That’s right,” Zada said firmly. “You were always hanging around Mr. Lane, and every scandal that popped up somehow involved you two. I think you tried to seduce him. You wanted to steal Halsey’s happiness for yourself.
She took a step closer, her voice steady. “It’s just the two of us here, so tell me the truth. Am I right?”
Sierra let out a cold, humorless laugh. “You’re right. It was me. I tried to seduce him. I wanted to take Halsey’s place. The night at the club, I knew he was in that private room. I brought him a drink on purpose, hoping he’d take the bait. But he didn’t. So I decided to turn it around–I accused him of trying to attack me and leaked it to the media. That way, I could crash his company’s stock and ruin his relationship with Halsey at the same time!”
Zada’s eyes widened in shock. Even though she had already suspected Sierra, hearing the latter admit it out loud still stunned her.
She couldn’t believe how far Sierra had fallen, and how Sierra had lost her moral compass completely.
Zada said slowly, “I can’t believe this. So it was all part of your plan. You even poisoned the chicken soup, didn’t you?”
rra smirked. “The poison in the soup? That wasn’t me. You did that yourself. I’m not admitting to anything.”
Zada glared at her. “Still lying, huh? Then explain this.”
She pulled out her phone and played a video.
Sierra’s face went pale as she watched the footage. There she was, in Zada’s living room, picking up the thermos, opening it, and dumping in a packet of powder.
That was impossible! She thought she’d covered her tracks perfectly. How had she missed that?
