So, in other words, Aurora had betrayed Daniel. There was no future for the two of them—none at all.
Daniel’s eyes darkened. When Aurora had wished her child a long and happy life, he’d glimpsed a different kind of tenderness in her—a glow that could only be called maternal.
It was blindingly bright. Almost painful to look at.
Something bitter twisted inside him, and he sneered, cold and sharp. “Aurora, your son has leukemia. Without a matching donor, he’s going to die.”
Aurora’s face went white. “He won’t die.”
“Oh? And how can you be so sure?” Daniel’s voice was laced with malice.
Monica jumped in, her tone equally biting. “Exactly. How do you know he won’t die? For all you know, you’ll never find a match.”
“Shut your mouth.” Louis’s voice was ice-cold as he cut in.
His gaze was steely as he looked straight at Daniel. “Mr. Chambers, since you already have a fiancée, perhaps you could tell me when you’ll be finalizing your divorce with my client?”
He was Aurora’s divorce attorney.
Daniel’s expression hardened. He’d heard of Louis’s reputation—never lost a case.
“I’m leaving.” He refused to answer, simply turning away and walking out.
Monica shot Aurora a venomous glare, spitting out, “I hope your son dies soon and finds peace in the next life.”
Aurora’s eyes filled with anger and tears as she moved forward, but Louis caught her arm.
“Don’t waste your breath on people like that.”
Aurora swallowed her fury. “I know.”

Hurt because she and Daniel were truly, irreversibly over.
At that moment, her phone rang—the hospital.
Aurora answered immediately.
Her face slowly went rigid.
“What is it?” Louis asked quietly.
Aurora lowered the phone, her voice trembling. “The donor match failed.”
She’d half-expected it, but it still stung.
A hollow wave of despair swept over her.
“Dan, Aurora was the one who betrayed you. I was just standing up for you.”
“You think I need that?” Daniel’s gaze was icy. “Monica, no one likes a spiteful woman.”
“I—”
“Get out.”
Back inside, Aurora forced herself to refocus.
Her relationship with Daniel was beyond repair. The fact that he’d ended up with someone like Monica wasn’t even surprising anymore.
“Ms. Quinn...” Louis hesitated.
“Aurora is fine,” she said with a faint smile.
Louis nodded, softening a touch. She was the child’s mother, after all—it would be wrong to keep things too formal.
“Aurora, as soon as Payne’s condition stabilizes, I’ll move forward with the divorce as quickly as possible.”
A bitter ache tugged at her chest. She nodded. “Thank you.”
Their voices were hardly quiet,
