Daniel hadn’t kept his divorce a secret, and soon enough, Mrs. Chambers found out.
A few minutes later, Monica heard the news as well.
After all she’d endured, Monica felt like she was finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Overjoyed, she called Eleanor and shared her happiness. She also asked Eleanor to persuade Mr. and Mrs. Quinn to arrange a blind date for Aurora as soon as possible.
Monica wanted to snuff out even the slightest chance of Aurora and Daniel ever getting back together.
Meanwhile, Aurora spent the night at the hospital with Payne. Early the next morning, her phone rang—it was Jordan.
“You’re still a Quinn by blood. After what you did, I don’t want to dwell on it anymore,” he said coldly. “I’ve found someone for you to marry. Go to the meeting. Once you’re married, then we’ll get tested for the donor match.”
“Married?” Aurora tightened her grip on her phone, unable to believe what she was hearing.
She’d just gotten divorced, and now Jordan was already in a rush to marry her off.
“What, did you think you could just stay here and drag us down for the rest of your life?” Jordan snapped. “Or do you think you can marry Louis? Let me tell you, stop dreaming. The Winters family would never accept you.”
Marry Louis? The thought had never even crossed Aurora’s mind. She had no idea where Jordan came up with these ideas.
“All I’ve ever asked is for you to get tested. Payne is your own flesh and blood too,” Aurora said, her voice shaking with anger and exhaustion.
The Quinn family was so cold.
Maybe they hadn’t known about Payne when he was born, but he was still family. She’d never expected them to love her son, but this was his life at stake.
And still, they wanted to haggle.
“If you get married, we’ll acknowledge him as our grandson, and of course we’ll get tested,” Jordan said, laying out his terms.
Aurora stared at her son lying in the hospital bed, her heart breaking.
“You get tested first. If you’re a match and agree to help, then I’ll agree to the blind date and wedding,” she said firmly.
She knew Jordan too well. He was a businessman through and through, always calculating, always looking out for himself. If she agreed now, and later he turned out to be a donor match, he’d only come up with even more outrageous demands.
Jordan wasn’t so easily swayed. “No. That’s not going to work.”
