Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 162

Engaged?

Of course. He was going to get engaged to Monica.

Aurora lowered her eyes, answering with a quiet, nonchalant “mm.”

She barely touched her dinner, pushing the food around her plate before setting her fork down.

A servant appeared with a bowl of herbal soup.

“What’s this—”

Before she could finish, Aurora took the bowl, drank it down in two gulps, and handed it back.

Mr. Austin’s remedy—meant to ward off the chill and strengthen her body.

She knew.

The bitterness unfurled on her tongue, flooding down into her stomach and churning her insides.

Aurora couldn’t hold it in. She rushed to the bathroom and retched until she was dizzy.

Her mouth was left sour and bitter, her stomach hollow and aching.

Bracing herself on the sink, she caught a glimpse of her own pale, disheveled reflection and managed a bitter, helpless smile.

Aurora, you look pathetic.

A sharp knocking broke the silence.

Aurora splashed cold water on her face before pulling the bathroom door open.

Daniel was standing in the hallway, his face unreadable.

Aurora was surprised. Wasn’t he supposed to be away tonight?

She wanted to say something—to ease the tension, to make things less awkward—but the words wouldn’t come.

She just stood there in silence.

Daniel studied her for a moment, his expression indifferent, then stepped aside so she could pass.

“Drink another bowl,” he said quietly.

Her stomach twisted in protest, but she nodded. “Alright.”

The servant brought another bowl of the bitter soup, setting it on the table with a spoon and a small plate of honeyed dates on the side.

Aurora picked up the spoon, steeling herself, but before she could take a sip, Daniel was already by her side.

“If you throw it up, you drink another.”

Aurora bit her lip, taking smaller sips this time, determined to keep it down.

It was still bitter, but sipping slowly, with the sweet dates as a chaser, made it bearable.

She finished the bowl.
