Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 191

Daniel was away on business—overseas, in fact—and would likely be unreachable for at least two weeks.

That’s what the housekeeper told Aurora when she returned to North Manor.

The real message, though, came from Will. He’d discreetly instructed the staff to let her know, hoping to keep her from worrying.

Will was always careful like that. Aurora managed a wry smile—he was slipping her Daniel’s whereabouts in his own subtle way.

Two weeks.

If Daniel was away for two weeks, then Payne would have to wait two more weeks.

Aurora realized she’d acted on impulse.

She had no appetite for dinner. After taking her medication, she went straight to bed.

She dreamt of Daniel, his face pale and accusing, chasing her through endless corridors, demanding to know if she had feelings for Louis.

She ran and ran, until she jolted awake, her heart pounding.

She glanced at her phone—3:30 a.m. With Daniel in Kyratia, it would be daytime for him right now.

But there were no messages. Nothing at all.

He was still angry.

Aurora clutched her phone, unable to fall back asleep.

Her mind spun with worry: when Daniel returned, he’d have to fight jet lag, and if they went ahead with the bone marrow procedure, his body might not handle it.

Then there was Mrs. Chambers, who didn’t want Daniel to help Payne. Who knew what she might try next?

Her thoughts tangled into knots.

She drifted in and out of sleep and finally woke at eight.

After breakfast, just as she was about to leave the house, two police officers arrived.

“Ms. Aurora Quinn, we have reason to believe you’re connected to an arson case from three years ago. Please come with us.”

Aurora’s mind buzzed, numb and heavy.

She’d known this day would come.

At the police station.
