Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 198

Nora had fainted from overwhelming grief. Now, with a baby on the way, she was confined to bedrest—doctor’s orders.

Daniel never left her side. He sat by the bed, holding her hand in his own, feeling how cold her skin was.

Mr. Hogan Chambers rushed to the hospital as soon as he got the call, arriving just in time to say goodbye to Grandma Grace. The loss hit him hard—he was so devastated that his heart condition flared up.

When Nora finally woke, her first thought was of her grandmother. She immediately tried to sit up, desperate to see her one last time.

Daniel pressed gently but firmly on her shoulder, refusing to let her go. “I’ve already made all the arrangements for Grandma’s funeral. You need to rest here and get your strength back. Once you’re feeling better, I’ll take you to see her.”

Nora’s eyes were empty and haunted. “I want to keep vigil for Grandma.”

She needed to be there for her grandmother’s final journey.

Daniel’s lips tightened into a hard line, pain flickering in his eyes. “Mrs. Quinn and Eleanor are already there…”

Nora let out a bitter, incredulous laugh. “They’re the ones who drove her to her grave, and you let them be there?”

Daniel always pretended not to hear when it came to Eleanor. Nora threw back the covers and climbed out of bed, determination burning through her exhaustion.

Daniel tried to stop her, but she wouldn’t be swayed. He could only watch as she left.

At the funeral home, the air was thick with cold and sorrow.

Nora saw Mrs. Quinn, Eleanor, and Jordan standing in the parlor. She couldn’t help a wry, bitter smile; of course Daniel had arranged this.

Daniel tried to explain. “She only had one son. Someone had to be here to say goodbye.”

Nora said nothing. She opened the car door, stepping out into the chill, and walked toward the chapel entrance.

Jordan spotted her and immediately lost his temper, face darkening with rage. “Who said you could come? Get out—now!”

He’d only just discovered that his daughter had been replaced by an orphan from a group home. The realization—and the memories of everything that had happened—made him feel sick. In his mind, it was all this imposter’s fault that his mother was gone. He hadn’t even had time to patch things up with Hogan Chambers, and now he’d lost any hope of inheriting the family fortune. And all because of Nora.
