Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 208

Aurora was sharp—quick to learn, always connecting the dots. I wasn’t like her at all. No matter what it was, I had to practice three or four times before I finally got it right. My mentor was endlessly patient, always encouraging me, never complaining as she explained things over and over.

Those memories still carried warmth.

A warmth so gentle it almost brought tears to my eyes.

"Aurora was brilliant," I said softly. "She always believed we should have our own signature fragrance, something to call our own. That’s how she ended up creating The Almanac of Air."

"We made a promise—to make The Almanac of Air known far and wide, to bring Velvet Silence to the world. Maybe that’s what helped her recover from the heartbreak after the Quinn family cast her out. She poured all of herself into her work."

As I spoke, a smile tugged at my lips, but the ache in my chest only deepened.

"And then she met you," I went on, turning to Louis. "She fell for you—completely taken, even looking forward to the baby when she found out she was pregnant." Nora’s voice quivered, her eyes glistening as she met Louis’s gaze.

But then Louis vanished, the flower shop burned down, and the world seemed to conspire against them.

Louis’s face had gone pale, his head throbbing with pain.

Payne tugged at his father’s hand. "Dad."

The little boy was sensitive, picking up on the tension between his parents. He didn’t want them to drift even further apart.

But Nora was determined to say her piece at Aurora’s grave.

She gently stroked Payne’s hair, encouraging him to go play on his own for a while.

Then, with a steady voice, she said, "Louis, I want you to let me raise Payne. I want him to take the Quinn name."

She had brought this up before, asking Louis to entrust the child to her. This time, she raised it again—right in front of Aurora’s resting place.

"You’re an attorney. You come from a good family. If you wanted to get married again, it’d be easy for you."

"But Payne is different. He’s frail, prone to illness. He needs someone who can truly devote themselves to him. If you remarry, your attention will be divided."

"And more than that, Payne was all Aurora had left—he’s her legacy."

Every word was reasonable.

Aurora was gone. Grandma was gone.

But the Quinn family needed someone to carry on.

Louis’s throat tightened painfully.

Even if his memories were gone, he’d raised Payne for three years. The boy was part of him now—letting go was unimaginable.
