Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 262

When Nora finally made it downstairs, Daniel was already gone.

A nervous housekeeper hovered nearby. “Mr. Chambers asked that you get ready. You’ll be going out to dinner soon.”

Nora frowned. After what had just happened between them, how could they possibly sit down for a civilized meal together?

She didn’t respond.

The housekeeper added, “He said you have to go.”

Nora considered it, then nodded. “Alright. I understand.”

She didn’t know what Daniel was plotting, but after all, she’d snatched The Almanac of Air from Eleanor. Maybe she was in a good mood; whatever this was, she’d go along with it.

It wasn’t until six in the evening that the driver finally arrived to pick her up.

The private dining room was already crowded when she walked in.

Hans and David were seated on one side. Across from them sat Mrs. Chambers and Mrs. Quinn.

Nora had a pretty good idea what this was about.

She quietly took the empty seat that had been left for her.

David glanced at Nora, his brow furrowing slightly. “My point is, we call off the engagement.”

He wasted no time. “Eleanor isn’t really the Chambers family’s daughter, after all.”

Marriages like this were about matching social status.

Eleanor’s face went pale, her eyes shining with unshed tears.

She looked at Hans, but he just spun his wine glass, eyes down, saying nothing.

David continued, turning his attention to Nora. “Switching the engagement to Dan and Monica works, too.”

He added, “If Ms. Cooper is willing to terminate the pregnancy, I’m prepared to offer you compensation.”

So, Nora thought, that was why she’d been summoned here.

They all thought she was clinging to Daniel.

“If Mr. Chambers agrees, I’d be more than willing,” she said coolly.

Daniel’s hand clenched into a fist under the table. So, she really was willing to get rid of the child.

How heartless could she be?

“Mr. Cooper,” Daniel’s voice was ice-cold, sending a chill around the table, “I’ve said before: the engagement between the Chambers and Cooper families is only between Eleanor and Hans. If you want to call it off, that’s your decision—but as for our business partnership, I’ll need to reconsider.”

“And as for Monica conspiring to have others bully Nora, I don’t plan to let that go, either.”

That incident was the only reason Hans had agreed to the engagement in the first place.
