Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 276

After waiting for nearly half an hour, the examination room door finally opened.

But it was only a nurse who came out, with Payne in tow—there was no sign of Daniel.

She thanked the nurse, took Payne’s hand, and asked him quietly, “Where’s Mr. Chambers?”

“Mr. Chambers got a phone call and had to leave,” Payne replied.

“He told me and Mom to go home first.”

Nora’s expression cooled. There were few calls that could make Daniel drop everything and leave so abruptly. It had to be Eleanor.

She held Payne’s hand and said, “Let’s go home.”

Just then, her phone rang. It was Louis; he remembered Payne’s check-up was today and was calling to pick him up.

Nora told him the check-up was finished and that they were still at the hospital.

“I’ll be at the front entrance soon,” Louis said. “Wait for me there.”

So Nora led Payne to the hospital lobby to wait.

No sooner had they sat down than two men in black suits approached, surrounding them. “Ms. Cooper, our lady would like to see you.”

Nora and Payne were escorted to a nearby café.

By the window sat Mrs. Winters, regal and elegant as always, but with a shadow of worry between her brows.

Payne greeted her sweetly, “Grandma.”

Mrs. Winters managed a vague reply.

Nora asked the barista for a glass of water, then turned to Mrs. Winters. “Is there something you wanted to discuss?”

Mrs. Winters slid a card across the table. “Ms. Cooper, this is compensation for Payne.”

Nora looked at the card but said nothing.

Mrs. Winters went on, “I know you want to change Payne’s last name. I support that. There’s also a sum included for you as a thank-you.”

Now Nora understood. Mrs. Winters had come on behalf of the Winters family—they didn’t want Payne, not even his name.

Her face turned cold.

“Mrs. Winters, no matter what last name Payne takes, he still carries the Winters blood.”

The Winters family’s attitude was heartless.
