Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 281

Daniel had arranged to meet Hans for dinner.

Hans poured a glass of wine and slid it across the table to Daniel, his tone light and teasing.

“You really are losing sleep over this wedding, aren’t you?”

As for whether he’d marry Eleanor, Hans couldn’t have cared less; his attitude was completely nonchalant.

Daniel’s expression was unreadable as he stared at him, making no move to pick up the wine.

He and Hans had grown up together—they were as close as brothers.

But after Hans’s parents passed away and Eleanor had run abroad with him to escape her own arranged marriage, things between them had faded.

Now, seeing each other again, Hans still wore that same casual, devil-may-care look, but Daniel could see through it. He knew Hans too well; beneath that laid-back exterior, there was a sharpness, a guarded emotion.

Daniel didn’t bother mincing words. “You marry Eleanor, and I’ll help you reclaim what’s rightfully yours.”

Hans’s smile didn’t waver. He swirled the wine in his glass, the liquid catching the light.

“So, is Eleanor your long-lost daughter or something? No, wait, if she were, you’d have thrown her out ages ago.”

Daniel’s brows drew together.

“She ditched you for me, and you’re still hanging on, even helping her plan her marriage. If you two weren’t the same age, I’d think she actually was your daughter.”

Hans’s tone was laid-back, almost joking, but there was a note of seriousness beneath it.

Daniel rubbed his forehead. “I’m being serious, Hans. We need to talk about this.”

The whole arrangement really hinged on Hans’s attitude. If Hans agreed, then even if David objected, the deal could go through.

But Hans didn’t seem eager.

“She ran off with you, left everything behind. Hans, if you don’t have feelings for her, why do all this?”

Everyone assumed Hans and Eleanor were a love story for the ages.

Who would have guessed that, three years later, Hans had already moved on?

Hans’s gaze grew distant; he clearly had no desire to revisit the past.

“I’ll marry Eleanor,” he said at last, “but only if you meet one more condition.”

Daniel set his glass down, eyes cold, already guessing where this was headed—this had to be about Nora.

“You let Nora go. And you make sure she can marry Louis. Do that, and I’ll marry Eleanor.”
