"Stop!" Nora shouted, her voice sharp with fear and anger as she rushed forward. "Let her go!"
Una lay sprawled on the ground, her hair a tangled mess around her face, utterly defeated and disheveled. Nora’s words echoed right beside her, but Una didn’t even lift her head.
One of the security guards, clearly annoyed, turned to Nora. "This woman attacked someone. We’re taking her to the police station—you’d best stay out of it." Without another word, he gave Nora a rough shove, nearly knocking her off her feet.
By the time Nora regained her balance, Una had already been forced into the back of a squad car, which sped away a moment later. Nora ran to her own car and set off after them, hands trembling on the wheel. She wasn’t the best driver, and it took her nearly thirty minutes to reach the police station.
By then, Una had disappeared into the interrogation room.
Una would never hurt Eleanor without a reason. Something must have happened.
Nora paced the waiting area, nerves wound tight. Each minute crawled by, an agony of helplessness.
"Ms. Cooper?" Will’s surprised voice broke through her haze. Nora looked up to see him standing there, the Chambers Group's attorney by his side. Her face went pale.
"Ms. Cooper, are you alright?" Will asked, concern in his eyes as he noticed her distress.
Nora steadied herself and forced her voice to stay calm. "I heard Eleanor was hurt. Is that true?"
Will nodded. "Yes."
"What happened?"
"It was in the hospital lobby. That woman suddenly grabbed a pair of forceps from a nurse’s cart and slashed Ms. Quinn with them."
Nora’s grip tightened around her phone. Una had vanished for months—why would she suddenly show up at the hospital and attack someone?
"Ms. Cooper?" Will prompted gently.
Nora shook herself out of her thoughts. "The person who hurt Eleanor… she’s my friend. Will, please, I’m begging you—don’t press charges against her right away. Please."
Will stared at her, astonished. "Your friend?"
"Yes. She didn’t mean to. Please, Will—can you arrange for me to see her? Just once?"
He hesitated, but finally agreed.
