“I’m not going,” Una shook her head, her voice trembling with emotion. “I’m never going back there.”
“All right, all right, Una. We won’t go.”
Una’s fingers quivered. “Aurora, I need some time to rest.”
“Of course.”
Nora respected her decision.
Three days later, it was the wedding Eleanor had been looking forward to for so long.
Daniel came to pick Nora up himself.
As they walked in together, Nora could feel the weight of several hostile stares.
One came from Mrs. Chambers.
She’d already heard from Eleanor about Daniel’s plan to remarry. But there were people Daniel had placed at the venue, making it impossible for her to get near Nora.
Another glare belonged to Monica.
Monica had been sent abroad long ago, allowed back only because Hans was getting married. She’d convinced herself she still had a chance, but seeing Nora with Daniel again shattered those hopes.
She despised Nora.
Nora ignored them, calm and unbothered, as she and Daniel took their seats in the front row.
Music floated through the air, filling the room with happiness.
Nora’s eyes fell on Hans at the altar, resplendent in a crisp white suit, strikingly handsome—though his face betrayed none of the delight expected from a groom.
To the slow, familiar rhythm of the wedding march, Eleanor appeared, arm in arm with Jordan.
A bashful smile played on her lips, and her eyes shone with infatuation for her soon-to-be husband.
She was finally marrying Hans, just as she’d dreamed.
Soon, she’d be Mrs. Cooper in every sense—a new life beside Hans and Daniel, the most esteemed woman in all of Fairvale.
Step by step, she walked down the aisle toward Hans.
At last, she stood facing him, radiant with happiness.
The minister began reciting the vows.
“Hans.”
A voice, not too loud yet impossible to ignore, cut through the ceremony.
Nora’s heart skipped a beat. She turned to look.
