Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 318

He finished speaking and walked away.

Mrs. Quinn hurried after him, stopping just outside the hospital room. “Dan.”

She gave a weary, helpless smile. “You know, Eleanor really does care for Hans. That’s why she’s afraid Jordan might tell everyone what happened.”

Daniel stood beneath the hallway light, his expression frosty and distant.

“Why did you have to wait,” he asked quietly, “until Eleanor and I were about to get married before telling me the truth about her past?”

Mrs. Quinn froze, the color draining from her face.

It took her a few moments to find her voice. “It was my fault. I was afraid that if your mother found out about Eleanor, she’d make life hell for her.”

She was telling the truth. After all, Mrs. Chambers had a reputation for being fierce, and though Brian had his share of affairs, he’d never brought a child home.

Except for Eleanor.

Daniel’s face was hard and cold, his eyes sharp as glass.

Mrs. Quinn shrank beneath his gaze, her guilt written all over her.

“Dan,” she tried to explain.

But Daniel had already turned away, leaving her standing in the hall.

He understood all too well.

Mrs. Quinn had kept Eleanor’s secret until the very last moment because she wanted to secure a better future for the girl. With both the Chambers and Cooper families behind her, Eleanor would be protected for life.

Mrs. Quinn was a calculating woman.

Meanwhile, Nora arrived at the hospital room to find Una already asleep, a nurse’s aide quietly tending to her.

A nurse intercepted Nora in the hallway. “Could you come to the doctor’s office, please?”

Nora followed her down the corridor.

The attending physician explained Una’s condition: the wound on her wrist wasn’t deep. It had missed the major arteries and would heal with rest. The real concern was her right hand.

“Her right hand?” Nora’s voice caught, and her breathing grew shallow.
