Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 38

Grandma Grace grew so agitated that even her breathing became uneven.

“Grandma,” Aurora said quickly, clutching her hand. “Dan’s here. I’m fine, really.”

Grandma Grace glanced over at Daniel, who stood straight-backed at Aurora’s side. Remembering how close the two were, she calmed down a little, her anger slowly subsiding. After all, Aurora and Daniel had their own little family now; there was no need to keep running back to the Quinns all the time.

With that thought, even Daniel seemed more agreeable to her.

“Let’s not disturb Aurora’s rest any longer. Jordan, take me home,” she snapped, waving her cane at her son.

Jordan felt thoroughly humiliated, but he had no choice but to obey, helping his mother to her feet.

Grandma Grace turned back to Aurora, her expression softening. “Focus on getting better, sweetheart. I promise—no one will bother you again.”

Aurora felt her throat tighten with emotion. “Thank you, Grandma.”

Jordan escorted Grandma Grace out of the room.

Daniel leaned down, straightened her pillow, and pressed a gentle kiss to her lips. “Get some rest.”

He slipped out silently, closing the door behind him.

Aurora burrowed her face into the covers, turning away as tears welled up in her eyes.

All that pain, all that vulnerability—she could only hide it here.

In the car on the way back to the Quinn estate, Grandma Grace glared at her son. “When we get home, have a word with Eleanor. She needs to learn her boundaries. There’s no reason to keep pestering Dan all the time.”

She genuinely wanted to help Aurora and Daniel’s marriage, as any caring grandmother would.

Jordan’s first instinct was suspicion. He shot his mother a look. “What did Aurora tell you about us this time?”

Grandma Grace smacked her cane against his leg, her tone icy. “Jordan, when Eleanor ran off before the wedding, you made Aurora take her place. Aurora did it for the Quinns’ sake. Now that she and Daniel are finally happy, you’re letting Eleanor interfere again—what are you playing at?”

Jordan nursed his bruised leg. “Eleanor and Dan grew up together. Of course they have a special bond.”

Grandma Grace knew her son all too well. “You’d better put those schemes of yours away. If any of you dare to hurt Aurora, I’ll be the first to put a stop to it.”

Jordan looked unconcerned; he had his own plans. But knowing his mother favored Aurora, he kept his thoughts to himself.

As for Samuel and Eleanor, Daniel ended up spending a fortune to make the whole thing disappear.

Aurora had expected nothing less. After that day, she never paid the matter any more attention.

When she was discharged, Daniel spared no effort to make it special. He gave her a bouquet of her favorite red roses and arranged a candlelit dinner at the best hotel in Fairvale.

After a glass of wine left her cheeks flushed, Daniel wrapped his arms around her from behind and pressed a kiss to her neck. “Aurora, let’s start fresh.”

Aurora managed a faint smile, tinged with irony. “And what about your precious Eleanor?”

Daniel held her tighter, his lips brushing her skin. “She’s settled now. She doesn’t need me anymore.”

Aurora lowered her eyes, gazing out at the city lights glittering beyond the window.

So that was it—Eleanor had let go, and that’s why he’d come back to her.

How cheap it all felt.
