Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 52

This was the ultimate humiliation.

Aurora couldn't bring herself to kneel.

“Mom…”

“You have no right to call me that.”

Aurora’s throat felt parched; her fingernails dug so hard into her palm she nearly drew blood.

Mrs. Chambers raised her voice. “Go fetch Jordan and that old woman right now. I want answers for what happened today.”

“No, please.”

Aurora’s eyes were empty, her voice hoarse. “Mrs. Chambers, I’m begging you—don’t trouble my grandmother. She’s elderly. She can’t handle this.”

As for Jordan, he’d already tried to use her grandmother as leverage to make her take the blame. Aurora knew better than to count on him. In fact, he was probably hoping Mrs. Chambers would punish her even more severely, just to vent his anger.

Mrs. Chambers lifted her chin, waiting for Aurora to make a choice.

“I’ll kneel.”

Aurora gave in.

Her knees felt weighted with lead; forcing herself down was agony. But inch by inch, she made herself kneel.

The instant her knees touched the cold floor, her dignity shattered.

The hospital room was silent.

Mrs. Chambers looked satisfied—three years of pent-up resentment finally released. She circled Aurora in her stilettos, admiring her handiwork.

“Stay like this until Dan wakes up and forgives you,” she said, voice dripping with superiority.

Then she swept out of the room.

The doctors and nurses hurried after her.

Outside the door, Mrs. Chambers instructed one of the doctors, “Give Dan a strong sedative. Make sure he stays asleep until tomorrow morning—I want him well-rested.”

Aurora stayed silent. She remembered this doctor—he’d always been polite before. Clearly, now that he’d seen how Mrs. Chambers treated her, he thought it safe to show his true colors.

“Hey, Mrs. Chambers, if you divorce Mr. Chambers you’ll get half his fortune, right? Set for life. Maybe kneeling like this is worth it after all.”

He waved his phone. “These photos could make me rich, don’t you think? Mrs. Chambers will pay good money for them.”

He was already eager to bargain with the photos he’d just snapped.

Aurora’s anger burned in her chest.

Her voice was icy. “Don’t worry. You’ll get what’s coming to you.”

“When will Mr. Chambers wake up?” she asked, forcing herself to sound calm.

The doctor sprawled out on the sofa, completely at ease. “Ma’am ordered a heavy sedative. He won’t be waking up before tomorrow.”

All hope drained from Aurora’s eyes.
