Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 59

“Stop eating.”

Daniel took the fork right out of Aurora’s hand, his face tense with restraint.

Her coughing fit finally eased, though a tear still clung to the corner of her eye.

She stood, wanting to retreat to her room.

But Daniel caught her by the wrist and pulled her back without warning.

She stumbled, falling against his chest.

She immediately tried to push herself up, but Daniel held her down.

Leaning in, he pressed a kiss to the corner of her mouth.

“Aurora, can we please stop fighting?” His voice was soft, almost pleading.

A wry smile touched Aurora’s lips. “Fighting? Is that what you think we’re doing?”

Fights were supposed to go both ways; all she ever got was his one-sided cruelty.

Daniel’s grip on her tightened. “In a few days, I’ll have Anna come over to keep you company.”

Anna was Daniel’s five-year-old niece. Her parents were never reliable, so she often spent a few days here and there at their house.

Aurora adored her.

“One day, let’s have a little girl as sweet as Anna,” Daniel said, his voice rough with longing.

His meaning was clear.

He was in his prime, his needs hardly subtle, and perhaps this was his way of trying to bridge the distance between them.

But he didn’t know—children were Aurora’s deepest ache.

With all her strength, Aurora broke free from Daniel’s hold, her gaze wounded and raw.

“Daniel, I—”

His phone rang, cutting her off.

From where she stood, Aurora saw the name flash on the screen.

Eleanor.

Whatever she’d wanted to say withered away. Without another word, she turned and headed upstairs.

Half a month slipped by.

Every evening, Aurora came downstairs on time to eat dinner with Daniel.

“Dan, thank you.”

Aurora moved silently, her steps feather-light on the stone path.

“Thank you for giving me such an important position at the Chambers Group, and thank you for not divorcing Aurora—for my sake.”

Aurora stood frozen, face drained of all color, staring blankly ahead.

So that’s why Daniel wouldn’t leave her. It was all for… Eleanor.

The conversation continued.

“Dan, when I came back, I thought for sure you’d hate me. I never expected… I—I’m the one who wronged you.”

“Dan, can I hug you?”

Aurora found herself drifting closer without realizing it, drawn in by the voices—until suddenly, she saw them, two figures wrapped in an embrace.

Her mind went blank, a sharp rush of blood surging up.

All the anger she’d bottled up exploded in that instant.

She lunged, grabbing a fistful of Eleanor’s hair, and slapped her hard across the face.

Before Eleanor could even react, Aurora landed two more stinging blows.
