Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 61

Aurora pressed a hand to her cheek, suddenly feeling—what was the point of all this?

What good would arguing here do?

Her husband and his family had always taken Eleanor’s side.

She turned and walked away.

“Aurora.” Daniel hurried after her, his voice tinged with urgency. “Let me explain, please.”

Aurora said nothing. With slow, unwavering resolve, she pried his hand from her arm.

She was frighteningly calm now—utterly, chillingly composed.

“I’ll draft a new set of divorce papers for you,” she said. “This time, I hope Mr. Chambers will sign without making things difficult.”

The slap he’d intercepted just moments before had exhausted the last ounce of feeling she had for him.

Now, she was truly, finally done.

Daniel stared as she peeled his hand away, realizing he’d only grabbed her to stop her from hitting someone. He hadn’t expected Samuel to lash out.

Regret swamped him, heavy and suffocating.

“If you’re leaving, then get out already,” Samuel sneered, his malice barely contained. “After three years as Mrs. Chambers, you really think you’re something special? Without the Chambers and the Quinns, you’re nothing.”

“And let me tell you, Dan’s loved Eleanor this whole time. Marrying you was just a way to dodge all those blind dates the family set up. Now that Eleanor’s back, you can get lost.”

“Samuel.”

“Enough, Sam.”

Two voices cut him off.

Aurora felt as if a knife had twisted in her chest, but somehow, she managed a faint, almost weightless smile. Her voice was soft, barely above a whisper.

“So that’s how it is.”

From the very start, she’d only been Daniel’s shield, the decoy he’d chosen to protect Eleanor.

And she—she’d actually poured her heart into this farce of a marriage, foolishly hoping she and Daniel could build a steady, ordinary life together.

What a fool she’d been.

No more hesitation. She turned to go, but her steps suddenly faltered.

The anger in her eyes vanished, replaced by panic.

“Grandma…”

Her voice cracked, hoarse and trembling.

How long had Grandma Grace been standing there? How much had she heard?

“Aurora.” Grandma Grace’s hand shook as she reached out. “Come here, dear.”

Aurora rushed to her side. “Grandma, I—”

Fiona hurried over, patting his back, then turned to scold Aurora, “Aurora, your grandmother raised you from a child. The least you could do is show her some gratitude. What if something terrible happens and it’s your fault?”

They all blamed Aurora for what happened to Grandma Grace.

Accusations and reproaches came one after another.

Aurora didn’t move, didn’t argue—her eyes were fixed on the doors of the emergency room.

In her heart, she prayed with everything she had. If only she could bargain her own life for her grandmother’s.

“Enough,” Daniel said, shielding Aurora with one arm, blocking Mr. and Fiona from getting closer. “Aurora’s upset enough as it is.”

He shot a cold, piercing look at Samuel. “Aurora isn’t the one who upset Grandma. Samuel is.”

Samuel straightened, defiant. “I didn’t say anything that wasn’t true.”

“Drop it,” Eleanor hissed, silencing her brother’s reckless mouth.

It was obvious to everyone—Daniel was furious.

Eleanor, as a woman, could see the regret in Daniel’s eyes for stopping Aurora’s slap.

Aurora…

She couldn’t help glancing at Aurora, sitting there so still.

She remembered how she’d run away from her arranged marriage all those years ago. Her parents, unwilling to lose their connection to the Chambers family, had begged her to go to Daniel, to persuade him to agree to marrying Aurora instead.
