Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 68

He muttered to himself, wondering when Mr. Chambers had started caring so much about her.

After all, in the past, Mr. Chambers never bothered with these trivial matters.

He was about to explain further when Daniel called over another assistant. “Will, from now on, you’ll be working with me.”

Will agreed at once, barely able to contain his excitement. This was a golden opportunity.

Aaron, on the other hand, looked as if the blood had drained from his face. He’d just been demoted.

Daniel headed for the exit, instructing Will, “Book the best restaurant you can find, and order the most beautiful roses. Today’s my anniversary with Aurora. I want to celebrate properly.”

Will rushed off to take care of it.

Just then, the elevator doors slid open and Eleanor stepped out, catching sight of Daniel already in his coat. She called out, “Dan, are you heading out?”

Daniel nodded. “Yeah, I’m going to the hospital to see my grandmother.”

Aurora stood nearby, nervously biting her lip. In a small voice, she asked, “Could you wait a moment? I need to talk to you.”

Daniel frowned.

Eleanor quickly jumped in, “It’s about work, Dan. I promise, it’ll only take half an hour.”

Daniel agreed, and the three of them returned to his office.

Half an hour later, their meeting ended.

Eleanor’s expression softened as she smiled. “Dan, why don’t I go with you to see your grandmother?”

Daniel gave a quiet “Sure,” and together, they headed to the hospital.

But when they reached the hospital room, it was empty.

Daniel’s brow furrowed. Had his grandmother been discharged?

Eleanor looked puzzled. “She’s gone home? Why didn’t Aurora tell you?”

She paused, her gaze falling on the table. “What’s that?”

Daniel strode forward, his eyes widening as he recognized what was lying there: two copies of divorce papers.

Eleanor let out a shocked gasp. “Divorce papers—Aurora, she…”

Her words trailed off. Daniel’s face had turned ashen, his expression so dark it sent a chill through the room.

He pulled out his phone and called Aurora, but no one answered.

He tried the house at North Manor—Aurora hadn’t gone back.

Meanwhile, Aurora tossed her SIM card out the window and rolled the glass up.

Grandma Grace patted her hand gently, her voice full of concern. “If you still care about him, there’s no shame in trying one last time.”

Aurora’s eyes glistened with tears, but she shook her head, slow and resolute. “It’s not necessary.”

Daniel had never loved her. Chasing after him would only add to her humiliation.

She’d put her all into that marriage; if Daniel had cared, things wouldn’t have turned out this way.

Sometimes, you have to learn to let go of what was never meant to be yours.

“Grandma, I’d like to plant a patch of peonies in the backyard.”

“And maybe get a cat.”

“And a dog, too.”

Aurora began sketching out her simple, happy life in Millbrook.

Grandma Grace stroked her cheek, her smile warm and loving. “Anything you want, sweetheart. Anything at all.”

As long as she was happy, that was enough.
