Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 98

Jordan wrapped his arm around his wife, glaring coldly at Aurora. “Ungrateful girl.”

She was nothing but trouble, born to torment him.

Eleanor, her voice trembling with hurt, dropped her hand from her cheek, revealing the angry red mark left by Aurora’s slap. “Dad, Aurora hit me.”

Jordan’s heart twisted with pain. His eyes, now openly filled with disgust, lingered on Aurora.

He used to merely dislike this daughter. Now, he couldn’t even conceal his loathing.

There was no more reason to hide it. After all, the Chambers family didn’t want her anymore, and with her divorce from Daniel, Aurora had lost all value to the Quinns.

“Aurora, you’re the one who should leave,” he spat.

He clung protectively to his wife and younger daughter, treating Aurora as if she were a stranger—an enemy.

Eleanor couldn’t help the slight upward curl of her lips.

Aurora lowered her eyes, a curtain of dark hair slipping over her shoulder, veiling half her face in icy indifference. The other half twisted slowly into a mocking smile, fixed squarely on Eleanor.

A chill crept up Eleanor’s spine, a sense of dread settling in.

Sure enough, Aurora’s voice rang out again a moment later. “Eleanor, are you really going to watch Samuel go to prison?”

The question struck right at the secret Eleanor hid deepest in her heart.

Jordan frowned, turning to his youngest. “Eleanor, what does she mean?”

Fiona, eyes glistening with tears, gently stroked Eleanor’s hand. “Eleanor, sweetheart, is there something you know? Tell us, please.”

For a heartbeat, panic flashed across Eleanor’s face, but she quickly schooled her features. She knew Aurora was trying to provoke her.

As long as Samuel kept quiet, Aurora had no proof.

Eleanor bowed her head, tears streaming down her cheeks as she choked out, “So now Aurora wants to see me thrown in jail too?”

They argued the whole way, and eventually, Grandma Grace had fainted.

“To her, Aurora’s family—but does that mean Samuel and Eleanor aren’t?” Fiona sniffled. “When it’s Aurora in trouble, she lashes out at us. Now Samuel’s in trouble, she just turns her back. What kind of family is that?”

Jordan felt a surge of resentment. “Once she wakes up, we’re sending her straight back.”

“As for Samuel, Eleanor, try talking to Dan again. He still cares for you. He’ll help.”

Eleanor felt only frustration. Daniel had cared for her once, but that was a long time ago.

Now, Daniel cared about Aurora.

Fiona chimed in, “That’s right, Eleanor. Dan still has feelings for you—why else would he remind you to pick up Grandma?”

Eleanor thought about it. Surely his childhood bond with her couldn’t be less than whatever he felt for Aurora now.

“I’ll do my best,” she said quietly.
