Chapter 14
Madison
The break room was mercifully empty. My hands shook slightly as I prepared his coffee, spilling a few drops on the counter. At least no one was around to witness my clumsiness.
I balanced the steaming mug carefully as I approached his office, taking deep breaths to steady myself. A quick knock, and
then I pushed the door open.
I entered his office, my heels clicking softly against the hardwood floor. Alexander sat behind his desk, focused on his
computer screen with that intense concentration I’d come to recognize.
“Your coffee, Mr. Knight.” I placed the mug carefully on his desk, making sure to avoid the scattered papers.
He glanced up, his eyes meeting mine. “Thank you, Madison.” His fingers brushed against mine as he reached for the mug, sending tingles up my arm.
The touch lingered longer than nery, his warm fingers sending sparks through my entire body. I fought the urge to bite
my lip, remembering all too well what those fingers were capable of.
“Will that be all, Mr. Knight?” My voice came out steadier than I felt.
He took
slow sip of coffee, his eyes never leaving mine. “What’s on the schedule for today?”
“Oh! Let me grab my tablet.” I turned toward the door, grateful for the excuse to break eye contact.
“Sure.”
I hurried back to my desk, snatching my tablet and taking a steadying breath. As I returned to his office, the screen flickered
to life, my fingers pulling up his schedule.
“Alright, so for today we have-”
“Did you eat breakfast?” He cut me off, leaning back in his chair.
“Oh. Yes, I made an omelet at home.” I fidgeted with my tablet. “With mushrooms and spinach.”
“Coffee?”
“Yes, I had my morning coffee at home.” I glanced at my tablet, trying to focus on the schedule rather than how his presence seemed to fill the room.
“Board meeting at ten with the investment team. They want to discuss the new development project in-“I faltered as Alexander rose from his chair, coffee in hand. He moved with that casual grace that made everything look deliberate.
“Go on.” He took a sip, leaning against the edge of his desk.
“Right. Um, a development project in California.” I scrolled through my notes, hyper–aware of his proximity. “Then lunch with
the foreign delegates at noon.”
He circled around, moving closer but maintaining a professional distance. My skin tingled with awareness.
“And in the afternoon, you have the marketing team meeting at three. They want to discuss next month’s ad campaign.” I kept my eyes glued to the tablet, pretending not to notice how he’d positioned himself closer. “Your evening is clear after five
“Hmm” The sound rumbled from his chest. “We should fill that empty slot with something”
My fingers fumbled with the tablet “What did you have in mind?”
He set his empty coffee mug on the desk with a soft clink. “I can think of several activities” His voice dropped as he moved

closer, his cologne making my head spin. “Very engaging activities.”
My cheeks flushed as I clutched the tablet closer to my chest. “What kind of activities?”
He stepped even closer, forcing me to tilt my head up to maintain eye contact. “Dinner, for starters. I know this excellent Italian place downtown.”
“Oh.” I relaxed slightly. Dinner seemed safe enough.
“Then perhaps…” His fingers traced the edge of my tablet. “We could explore some more private entertainment options.”
I swallowed hard. “Like what?”
“Swimming in my rooftop pool.” His eyes sparkled with mischief. “Unless you’re afraid of heights?”
“I’m not afraid of heights.” I squared my shoulders, trying to appear more confident than I felt. “But I didn’t bring a swimsuit
to work.”
“That won’t be a problem.” He smirked. “I have several in your size.”

My eyebrows shot up. “You ju
My face burned at his blunt statement. “That was different. You were under the influence of something.”
“Was I?” His fingers traced along my jawline. “I remember every detail quite vividly.”
“Every.” His hand settled on my waist. “Single.” He stepped closer, eliminating the space between us. “Detail.”
“Like how you taste.” His lips ghosted over mine. “How you sound.” Another feather–light kiss. “How you feel.”
Before I could react, his mouth descended on mine with a fervor that stole my breath. The kiss was demanding and intense like he wanted to devour me whole. I found myself responding, my hands clutching at his shirt as I leaned into him,
His tongue teased mine, coaxing it into a heated dance. I felt a moan escape my lips, and he responded by deepening the kiss,
In one swift motion, he lifted me effortlessly onto his desk. The cold surface pressed against the backs of my thighs, sending a shiver through me. He stepped between my legs, pressing himself closer as his mouth continued its assault on mine.
He pulled back slightly, flashing me a wicked grin. “You’re even more beautiful when you’re flustered,” he murmured before his lips reached my neck
When he reached the buttons of my blouse, he paused only briefly before undoing them one by one. Each pop of a button felt like an eternity, and I bit my lip to keep from making any more embarrassing noises.
