Chapter 54
Madison
The warmth of his body against mine felt impossibly good. Even through the silk pajamas, his heat radiated into my skin. My stomach growled again, and I felt his chest rumble with quiet laughter.
“Sounds like someone worked up quite an appetite.” His fingers traced circles on my hip through the
silk.
I buried my face in his chest, hiding my smile. “Well, someone kept me rather busy today.”
“Mmm. And I plan to keep you even busier later.” His hand slid lower, making me shiver.
The casual way he ordered ridiculously expensive food for me, the protective arm around my waist, and the gentle teasing felt so natural. It was like we were actually dating, not just fulfilling an
arrangement.
I had to keep reminding myself that this was business, nothing more. No matter how right it felt when he held me like this or how my heart fluttered when he smiled at me, I couldn’t let myself forget the truth. This was a deal we’d made, plain and simple. Even if it was getting harder and harder to remember that with each passing moment.
“What are you thinking about?” Alexander’s voice was low, intimate.
“Just wondering how many calories are in a Wagyu slider.” I deflected, not wanting to reveal my actual thoughts.
He chuckled. “Trust me, we’ll burn them off later.”
A knock at the door interrupted whatever wickedly promising things he was about to suggest. Alexander reluctantly untangled himself from me and went to answer it.
The room service cart rolled in, loaded with silver–domed plates. The smell of truffle fries made my
mouth water.
“Thank you.” Alexander tipped the server generously and wheeled the cart closer to the bed.
“This is way too much food.” I sat up, eyeing the multiple covered dishes.
“You’ll need the energy.” He lifted one dome, revealing perfectly arranged sliders.
My fingers reached for one of the perfectly arranged sliders, but Alexander caught my wrist.
“Not in bed.” His voice held that commanding tone that made my insides flutter.
“Why not? I’m comfortable here.” I settled deeper into the plush pillows to prove my point.

In one fluid motion, he scooped me into his arms. I let out a surprised squeak, my hands automatically wrapping around his neck. The silk pajamas slid against his chest as he held me close, and the scent of his cologne made my head spin.
“The bed is for two activities only – sleeping and sex.” His eyes darkened with promise. “And right now, we’re doing neither.”
“Mr. Knight, I can walk perfectly fine-”
“I’m aware.” But he didn’t put me down, instead carrying me to the sitting area, where he deposited me gently on the plush couch.
“I thought we were heading to the dining table?” I smoothed down the silk pajamas that had bunched up during the impromptu ride.
“Here’s better.” He wheeled the cart over to the coffee table. “More intimate.” 1
The way he said ‘intimate‘ sent shivers down my spine. He settled beside me, his thigh pressing against mine as he arranged the plates.
“Besides,” he added, removing silver domes one by one, “from here, we have a better view of the Strip.”
He wasn’t wrong. The lights of Las Vegas twinkled beyond the floor–to–ceiling windows, creating a dazzling backdrop to our midnight feast. But I was more distracted by how his fingers brushed mine as he handed me a slider or how his eyes kept drifting to my lips every time I took a bite.
“The bed rule seems arbitrary,” I pointed out, reaching for a truffle fry. “What if I get hungry after all that sleeping?”
Alexander’s eyebrow arched, a wicked smile playing at his lips. “Just sleeping? Or are you referring to what happens when you’re thoroughly fucked and need to replenish your energy?”
Heat flooded my cheeks. I focused intently on my plate, carefully selecting another truffle fry and taking a small bite. The rich, earthy flavor filled my mouth as I deliberately avoided his gaze.
“Don’t worry.” His voice dropped lower, sending shivers down my spine. “I’ll happily carry you to the couch or dining table whenever you need sustenance. I rather enjoy having you in my arms.
The sincerity in his tone made my heart skip. “Thank you, Mr. Knight.”
I glanced at his untouched plate. “Aren’t you going to eat?”
“I am.” He picked up his slider, his eyes never leaving mine. “I was just enjoying watching you first.”
He took a bite, and I noticed a small spot of sauce at the corner of his mouth. My fingers twitched with the urge to wipe it away, but I restrained myself. This was just an arrangement, I reminded

myself. No matter how domestic this moment felt.

“The sauce is excellent,” he commented, finally breaking eye contact to reach for his own truffle fries. “Though not as delicious as other things I’ve tasted.”
I nearly choked on my bite. The man was impossible – managing to make even a casual dinner feel charged with sexual tension.
I reached for my water, taking a long sip to compose myself.
“These really are delicious,” I said, focusing on the food instead of the way his eyes followed my every movement.
“Indeed.” Alexander’s voice held that deep, rich tone that made my toes curl. “Though you seem to be wearing more of it than eating it.”
I dabbed at my mouth with a napkin. “Where?”
“Right here.” He leaned in close, his thumb brushing the corner of my mouth. The simple touch sent electricity through my body. Instead of pulling back, he let his thumb linger, tracing my bottom lip.
“I can clean my own face.” But my protest came out breathy, undermining any attempt at sounding
stern.
“Where’s the fun in that?” His eyes darkened as he brought his thumb to his own mouth, slowly licking off the sauce. “Mmm. Even better than I remembered.”
Heat flooded my cheeks and other places I didn’t want to think about while trying to eat dinner. I grabbed another fry, determined to focus on the food.
“You’re blushing.” His observation came with a satisfied smirk.
“It’s warm in here.”
“Is it? Perhaps you should take off those silk pajamas.”
“I’m trying to eat.”
“So am I.” The way he looked at me made it clear food wasn’t what he had in mind.
I forced myself to focus on my food, though Alexander’s heated gaze made it difficult to swallow. Every time I reached for another fry or took a bite of my slider, I felt his eyes tracking my movements like a predator stalking prey.
“The view is spectacular,” I commented, desperate to change the charged atmosphere.
“It certainly is.” His voice dripped with suggestion as he continued staring at me rather than the

Vegas lights outside.
I dabbed my mouth with a napkin, hyper–aware of his attention. “You’ve barely touched your food, Mr. Knight.”
“I’m savoring every bite.” He picked up a fry, slowly bringing it to his lips. “Some things shouldn’t be rushed.”
The way he ate that single fry should have been illegal. I shifted in my seat, the silk pajamas suddenly feeling too warm against my skin.
“These truffle fries must be getting cold,” I muttered, reaching for another one.
His hand caught mine mid–reach. “Allow me.”
Before I could protest, he picked up a fry and held it to my lips. My heart thundered in my chest as I parted my lips, allowing him to feed me. His thumb brushed against my bottom lip as he withdrew
