Chapter 59
BLOOD CRESCENT
ALEXANDER
I’m back in the great hall. The torches burn low, but it is bright enough to see everyone
clearly.
I hear the chatter of the pack, the laughter, the low sound of drums. My father stands at the center, towering, proud, his voice echoing as he calls for silence.
“Tonight, I present to you my new consort.”
The air thickens, and my chest tightens, though I don’t know why. The crowd parts, and I see the figure cloaked in silk, a veil hiding her face. My wolf stirs uneasily, claws dragging against the walls of my mind.
Then…she lifts her veil, and my breath stops.
It’s her.
My fated mate, Diana.
She smiles, radiant, but it’s not for me. It’s for him–my father. She leans into his arm as though it’s her rightful place, her eyes catching mine across the hall. There’s no shame in her eyes, no apology.
Everyone began to whisper…the whispers were loud.
“…of course she chose the Alpha…”
“…the son humiliated before us all…”
I want to speak, to shout, but my throat burns and no sound comes out. My legs are rooted. My father’s hand slides over her waist, staking his claim. My wolf howls inside me, broken, yet no one hears.
Then, suddenly, the scene distorts. The hall stretches like molten glass, faces melting into masks. Diana’s smile grows wider until it splits her face in two. My father laughs proudly…while Diana stares at me…her eyes burn with cold fire.
I stumble back, but the ground swallows my feet. The more I struggle, the deeper I sink. They stand above me, watching me.
I reach for her, Diana, for the bond that once pulled at my soul, but she turns away, pressing

her lips to my father’s, and my heart shatters all over again.
I begin to scream…finally, only to jolt awake in the darkness of my chamber, my body drenched in sweat. The echo of their laughter clung to the walls.
It was a dream. Memories from the past, haunting me again…

I picked up my phone and checked the time… 1:00 am. I knew sleep was over for me tonight.
“I need to get some air,” I said to myself.
Before I could talk myself out of it, I swung my legs off the bed and pushed to my feet… I didn’t want to wake anyone, so I used the window.
The cool air hit me as soon as I landed on the ground.
I shifted immediately and turned towards the woods.
The relief was instant. My wolf, Aiden, burst forward in a violent surge, strength unfurling in my muscles, claws tearing at the soil the moment my paws hit the ground.
The cold air slammed into me, rushing through my fur, stinging my lungs, but I welcomed it. I welcomed the rush as I ran through the clearing, across the ridges, into the belly of the
woods.
I wanted to outrun it–the memories, the ache, the ghosts still clawing at me from the inside.
I didn’t care where I was going, or how far I had gone. Didn’t care if I crossed borders or stumbled into danger. I wanted to feel nothing but motion.
But then-
Something lunged out of nowhere, cutting me off.
I snarled and skidded to a halt. The ground tore beneath my claws, dirt flying as I braced for impact. My whole body trembled…my wolf was ready to tear apart whatever dared to stand in my way.
Then the moonlight shifted, sliding over the figure and recognition hit me.
It was Cole.
My beta stood firmly in his wolf form, body rigid, eyes locked onto mine. He planted himself squarely in my path.
My anger faded a bit, and my guard dropped. I shifted back.

“What the hell, Cole?” I snapped, My chest heaved, my body thrumming with barely contained energy. “You could’ve gotten yourself killed!”
Cole didn’t even flinch. He shifted into his human form too.
“I knew you wouldn’t hurt me.”
The simplicity of it pissed me off more. He said it like it was fact. He knew how ruthless and reckless Aiden could be.
He reached into the satchel slung across his back and pulled out a robe. Without a word, he held it out. I yanked it from him, sliding it over my shoulders. And he pulled another one out for himself.
“What are you doing out here?” I demanded, my voice sharp and accusing, like he was the one at fault for all of this.
Cole shrugged, but his gaze was fixed on me. “I was still awake…heard noises outside my window, so I looked out and saw you bolting off like a madman.” His eyes narrowed, an edge slipping into his voice as he stepped closer. “So I followed.”
My jaw tightened. “You shouldn’t have. You know I like to be left alone sometimes.”
“You know better than to assume I wouldn’t come after you,” he said. “Now, you want to tell me what the hell is wrong with you? Running this far into the woods at this hour–with security the way it is? It’s risky, Alexander.”
