Chapter 634
“You couldn’t afford that,” I shot back, my heart skipping a beat.
He looked over at me. “Care to test me? Marriage is where this all leads.”

“Mr. Jennings, I have no intention of ever getting married again, so there’s no destination for us,” I blurted out, my heart pounding. ‘Has Edward completely lost it?‘
Ryan and I had barely broken up, and now he was already tossing the word “marriage” at me like it was nothing.
‘Seriously, is life in their elite circles really this chaotic?‘
‘Or maybe women just don’t even register on their radar!‘
‘Either way, there’s no way I’m throwing myself into that dumpster fire!‘
“Then, can I at least be a part of your story?” Edward asked, his voice low and husky.
“Sorry,” I muttered, his flirting was driving me crazy. “I’m heading upstairs. Take care on your way home.”
Not giving him another glance, I headed upstairs.
Once I got home, I opened the window and glanced down. There he was, still leaning against his car, cigarette in hand. He hadn’t left yet.
Freaking out, I yanked my head back inside. No way was I letting him catch me spying on him.
Elaine still hadn’t come home yet. Guess she’s out for the night again.
I took a shower and crashed onto my bed, tomorrow’s lesson plan sitting right next to me. But honestly, my mind was nowhere near it.
I was so restless, like I was wrapped up in flames–so much that I was actually getting hot.
Even during that wild, passionate year with Jared in my previous life, I never felt my heart floating so high, so untethered, like I do tonight.
Back then, after class, I didn’t have a single worry. I just knew Jared would show up, never once letting me down–and every time, he’d bring me a little gift.
But now… Edward’s arrival was so unpredictable, throwing my emotions into chaos and leaving me restless.
í
shut my eyes, letting my thoughts wander.
Before I knew it, I drifted off to sleep.
In my dream, I was back in high school, rocking a ponytail, full of energy as I walked to class with my friends.

“Victoria, you’re in the wrong classroom. Your class is in Dreamer Hall…”

“Dreamer Hall…” I mumbled, standing in the hallway, glancing around in confusion, trying to figure out where I was supposed to go.
In my dream, I was sprinting all over the school building, totally lost, thinking, ‘Since when did our school even have a Dreamer Hall?‘
I kept running and running in that dream, like it would never end…
When I woke up, it all felt so real–and I was exhausted, like I’d just run a marathon in my sleep.
I tossed off the covers and sat up, covering my face with both hands. ‘Dreamer Hall…‘
No wonder I could never find it in my dream–turns out, that building doesn’t even exist yet.
I splashed cold water on my face, the chill snapping me right back to reality.
I forced myself to stop thinking about Edward, grabbed my books, and hurried out to class.
At noon, the guy from Shaville called me up. Turns out, they’d dug up some bad press on the guy who was scamming people, got a few witnesses to spill, and the troublemaker finally shut up. He even agreed to have the wedding at the hotel, just like we’d arranged, and paid half the deposit up front.
With that mess finally sorted, I was sitting in a café, watching people go by outside. Out of nowhere, I thought, ‘If Edward could really teach me some ways to handle stuff like this, I’d have way more tricks up my sleeve at work.‘
But then again, those are his hard–earned lessons. Just mooching off him wouldn’t be fair.
Messing around on my phone, I suddenly remembered that legendary Akhal–Teke horse Edward mentioned yesterday.
I had no idea what it even looked like, just heard it was insanely rare–most people would never get a chance to see one in real life.
I tried googling The Jennings Group, but there was barely anything out there. All I found was that the company had been around for nearly a century and had their hands on all kinds of top–tier resources. Other than that, it was a total dead end.
I absentmindedly sipped my coffee, then made my way back to campus for the afternoon classes.
At five in the afternoon, I walked out of school and suddenly spotted a Maybach parked right at the gate.
‘Crap. My heart nearly jumped out of my chest.
