Chapter 158
Although he was a state–taught materialist, it was better to be safe than sorry.
Most importantly, why would the young master give his personal heirloom jade charm to the little Miracle Doctor!
This made no sense at all!
Blaine didn’t dare to ask.
Ruby, however, dared to speak up: “Boss, the little Miracle Doctor figured out I work for you.”
“That’s normal.‘
“I
Adrian paced back and forth, a smile suddenly touching his lips as he thought of someone’s cleverness. “She’s always been more perceptive than others.”
Ruby breathed a sigh of relief, then immediately pledged his loyalty: “Don’t worry, I won’t tell the old chairman your secret.”
“Secret?”
Adrian looked at his fingertips, his tone deliberate. “What secret do I have?”
Ruby thought the boss didn’t trust him, so he blurted out everything he knew: “The little Miracle Doctor already told me. You and she aren’t real. You’re in a contract relationship to fulfill an old man’s wish.”
Contract relationship? What contract relationship?
Blaine was completely bewildered.
Adrian’s long legs had stopped moving, and the hand hanging at his side paused slightly.
Ruby had a look of complete understanding on his face. “Boss, you agreed to play along with the little Miracle Doctor to avoid the old chairman’s forced marriage, right? I get it.”

Hearing this, the smile in Adrian’s eyes gradually turned cold.
His lips pressed into a thin line, his handsome, well–defined face taking on a cold, grim look. His voice was completely flat: “She said it was fake?”
“Yeah.”
Ruby was still nodding, completely unaware of the consequences of his words.
Adrian looked back at him, his eyes seeming to lighten in color. His voice was very low, as if it could be carried away by the wind: “It will be real.”
What?
Ruby didn’t hear clearly and quickened his pace, trying to get closer to his boss.
But their boss said no more. A chill emanated from his tall, straight back, and the corner of his coat, caught by the wind, made him look even colder.
The limited–edition Maybach was still parked in the same spot, trying not to attract attention. But this time, because he had just returned from abroad, he had a few too many bodyguards with him, which was bound to draw attention.
The row of conspicuous and imposing men in black stood waiting. As Adrian approached, one of them respectfully opened the car door for him.
In that moment, Adrian’s presence was powerful and noble. Especially in his dark trench coat, he looked even more like a foreign mafia boss.
He had never shown this side of himself to Annelise.
To Annelise, he was just a frail, pale patient.
“Get a different car next time.”
Adrian said casually as he sat in the back seat.
The new special assistant immediately handed him a pen and a document. “Yes. May I ask, young master, what kind of car should I arrange for next time? A longer one, or one with more comfort?”
Adrian, as usual, sat with his legs crossed, reading the document, then signed his name with a fluid motion. “Something more affordable.”
